I remember getting this book when i was around the 4th or 5th grade (i’m a freshman in high school) and it made so much more sense than when i first read this 5 years ago lol
I didn’t even finish the book before because…it’s a long story. But anyway, i kinda liked it??? It wasn’t poorly written tho but i feel like something about it is incomplete. Plus that ending kinda weird lmfao

It was meh.
This book was one of those books I just picked up so I'd have something to read over the weekend, and that was kind of all this book was to me, a filler. The idea was okay I guess, but there were no real obstacles or climax to the plot. The 'blocked sender' was blackmailing people to give them money/pills with their 'deep dark secrets', and they start working together to take the blackmailer down. The secrets weren't even that bad though. Sure, if their parents found out it'd be pretty bad, but as the group grows and they find out each other's secrets, there are no real complications coming from.
I left like the storyline was just... flat. The mood more or less stayed the same from start to end. There were no real setbacks, and I found myself waiting for something to spring up and stop them at any point. The plot twist at the end was like... mkay cool are we done soon? I dunno, the characters were fine, the concepts and topics talked about were fine, it was all just fine. But I wanted more. It just had a lot of relationships between people it was a bit if a juggling act. not really getting to resolve friend problems completely, which I guess reflects real life, but as a book, it didn't have a particularly satisfying end. Plus it included teenagers complaining about 'unauthentic Mexican food' which felt off to me.
It was fine but a little dull. it had so many opportunities to make it more engaging, but it didn't end up happening. It just kind of just a meh book.

I’m trying to go through my physical tbr and all those are actually young adult books that I bought before the pandemic around 3-4 years ago and at that time I was very much into young adult.
Pushing Perfect caught my attention because I related a lot to the synopsis. I’m literally one of those high school students who obsess over their future. And although I’ve now accepted that I should chill a lot more and just try my best and see where life gets me, at the time, I got really interested in this book and wanted to see how Kara would handle her situation. I definitely DID NOT expect this book to be so much more than just that.
Pushing Perfect is a young adult mystery. And I’m not saying anything more. I loved the small mystery and suspense and I found myself flipping page after page just to finish the plot, hence, I finished this book in a few hours in one sitting. The book centered a lot on the plot, self-growth, and friendship and it was very cute, quick read. I had a bit of a problem with some characters and a specific minor trope of a minor character which is why this book got a lower rating that I would’ve given it.
Have you ever wanted to ace your SATs so bad that you take a sketchy underground drug to help you perform better? No? Well this bitch did, and I have no remorse for her repercussions. Lots of high school drama, blackmail, romance. Unbelievable story but entertaining nonetheless.

Ehhh…it was okay. I regret letting my sister buy me this since hardbounds are expensive asf. The only thing I got from this book is to stop trying to be perfect all the time and that it’s okay to acknowledge your mistakes because it will only become harder for you to maintain the act when you don’t. Honestly, I didn’t really relate to it as much as I wanted to—all the academic pressure and stress associated with being a high school student.

This was such a great book, I loved her dealing with pressure of having to be perfect, as well as dealing with being blackmailed! Really great read!
