Enzo, a macho yellow lab, recounts his life spent with his master who he emulates: Denny Swift, a race car driver who experiences gains and losses on and off the track.
wish I could post a picture with this review so you can see how i am genuinely sobbing.
This book is a treasure and possibly in my top 5 of all time!

“The sun rises every day. What is to love? Lock the sun in a box. Force the sun to overcome adversity in order to rise. Then we will cheer! I will often admire beautiful sunrise, but I will never consider the sun a champion for having risen.”
I was not sure I wanted to read this. It sounded like "a sad dog story" which is not something I thought I would vibe with. Enzo believes that his time on earth is for the purpose of learning how to become a human, and it seems like the author might feel that everyone's time on earth is for the purpose of learning how to become a human. The characters in the story are realistic and their struggles are very tangible and relatable. It was still a sad dog book, but it was still heartwarming and cozy.

This is one of the saddest books I have ever read. So, of course, I loved it. I had to sit in my bathroom and sob for a while after I finished it. Any book that can make me feel that deeply is a 5-star. I loved this book; I loved reading from the dog's point of view; I LOVED the ending, even though it made me cry harder. I highly recommend to anyone, but especially dog-lovers.
If you want to read a great book "written" by a dog, then go for A Dog's Life, by Peter Mayle. That dog is funny and self-important and snobby and clever and clueless and adorable, AND sees the world totally from the correct perspective -- his. Just like my dog.
3.5 stars. I read this soon after my dog died, as it felt relatable. I enjoyed this book. It was an easy read and Enzo was lovable and wise. I guess the afterlife aspect is where is lost me. I wish my dog was running around pain-free in a field somewhere, but I don't believe that truly. I was also shocked by the insane evil of the twins. Unless Enzo viewed them with extreme bias, their awfulness was just not believable.
One of my all time favorites. Great Great read, thank you Enzo
Very quick read. I'd avoided it for awhile because the technique seemed too contrived...for me it was.
Sweet, and especially funny for those of us who know we hear our dog’s thoughts.
