At first I was just reading this book for a project at school. However once I started reading it I couldn't stop. The challenges that Heather, Natalie, and Dodge have to face had me on the edge of my seat. The relationship between Heather and Bishop was riveting and I couldn't get enough.
The beginning of this book starts out with Natalie getting ready to do the initiation challenge of Panic, a game where if you show fear you lose. Her best friend, Heather, the main character of this book, had no intention of playing Panic. But, when her boyfriend breaks up with her at the challenge, Heather decides to join Panic. Joining Panic changes Heather's life. She does things that push her to her limit.
This book combines realistic fiction and the future into a beautifully brilliant book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants an adventure with a little bit of romance.

Really disappointed by the author after this. Panic was one of the first books I read in English without reading it first in German.
I really enjoyed this book. I admit that I was a little skeptical about picking this book up as I didn't really enjoy Oliver's book Before I Fall enough to be dying to read more of her works but I'm glad I chose to read this one.
This book had me turning the pages pretty fast and it had me wanting to know what was going to happen next. The only issues I had with the book is that I didn't feel a connection with any of the characters. The characters and their back stories felt a little dry to me. Also, much like Before I Fall, I didn't like the way Oliver wrapped the book up.
All in all, it was an enjoyable read and if you are looking for a contemporary Hunger Games-esque book, you should check this one out.

Maybe even a 4.25. I went into this with really low expectations and I came out of it SO pleasantly surprised. I was completely hooked from start to finish. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a quick, interesting read.
2.5 stars. It took me such a long time to read this, and I can’t pinpoint why. It feels sacrilegious to say, but I liked the show a lot more.
I was thrilled to know that this was a stand alone novel and that things would be resolved within the 408 pages and then what wasn't completely resolved would allow you to carry your own thoughts out for the characters. Stand alone's are underrated nowadays!! "Before I Fall" by Lauren Oliver is one of my favorite books and I thought that the plot line in "Panic" novel was equally as interesting, there were just a few things that missed the mark for me in this novel. As I stated in my update, Oliver did a fantastic job at depicting Upstate NY and it's relentless black cloud, literal and figurative. Nat and Dodge's selfish ways were annoying and I wish I could have seen more growth from them and even a little more growth from Heather. Heather had a nice arc, but I thought it could have been taken a little further. She dealt nicely with the crappy hand she was dealt in life and I loved everything that she was able to experience and gain from Anne. I don't think the game of Panic is all too far-fetched and I'm almost scared that someone will weasel this idea off of the pages of this book.
I usually have always loved young adult books, but I think I've outgrown the selfish struggles and thoughts of teenagers because I've outgrown most of those feelings in life. I think I'll stick with dystopian and paranormal themes when it comes to young adult now.

Panic is a high stakes game graduating seniors in this small town play that is based around their deepest fears. The winner gets the pot which could be their golden ticket out of the small town and into bigger things.
Ok so the rules is when a book gets turned into a movie the book is always better. But when a book gets turned into a tv show the tv show is always better (especially with Mike Faist playing Dodge) I rest my case with this one. While the book was good the show was way better and more suspenseful but we’re here to talk about the book so here goes.
There are two main POVs: Heather and Dodge. Heathers two friends Bishop and Natalie are the two main side characters. All of them are very well written and fleshed out. Each person has a realistic storyline and reasons for playing. They’re all desperate and this is very well conveyed throughout the story.
Heather could be annoying at the beginning always griping about her boyfriend cheating but she had a nice character arc that was emphasized through Dodge’s POV. She’s insanely desperate to get out of this small town and away from her drug and alcohol addicted mother.
Dodge was motivated by revenge but it turns into something else towards the end as his sister is no longer interested in revenge. Dodge’s and eye for an eye really gets out of hand to the point that he is contemplating murder of someone not even directly involved with his sisters accident. That makes him no better than Luke. He was also obsessively protective of his sister often referring her as “my Dayna” which was a little weird. On that same note he was positivity infatuated with Nat and new all this weird information about her when they literally had never spoken.
Nat and Bishop were both kind of annoying. Nat was afraid of everything so idk what she was thinking entering a competition based on fear. Bishop and Heather had no chemistry so that was a weird turn.

This read like one of those cheap summer thrillers/horror flicks.
I can't say I liked it that much and my feeling overall for it is 'meh'.
The characters were well developed, diverse, and interesting but I felt absolutely no connection to any of them. I mean we have a bunch of tropes the stoic, strong female lead whose mom is a crack trailer trash and she's the one who has to take care of her sister. The black male character who's living with a single mother and a handicapped sister. A bitchy childhood best friend, who seems more interested in her own self gain, than loyalty. A best friend who is of course also a love interest. Also tigers.
A dangerous game thought up by teenagers who manage to outwit the cops who are of course idiots. Where the hell are the parents? Ah of course one is a crack addict, the other is too busy with a handicap sister, the other mysteriously not there, and one pair present but not really. Why are there tigers?
The relationship drama really took away from the tension of the games.
It felt vaguely like there was supposed be slightly paranormal, but it wasn't. It was the tigers.
Overall, really underwhelming.
