An extremely chaste Christian romance

I felt cheated when the last book in the series ended before one of the couples had a first kiss and this book began with them already married. In fact, of the 4 couples discussed in the 3 books, we only get to see a kiss from 1 of the 4.

I further felt cheated by how much of the storyline and relationship development took place between the last chapter and the epilogue.

This novel has a very different feeling than the rest of the series, because we begin in a place of panic and anxiety. Also, the male lead isn't a thoughtful, spiritual man. It's a fine fit to the series, in general, and allows the reader the opportunity to revisit Kevin and Dawn's relationship. Also, the author has poked at every insecurity that Linc has ever had, so we get to grow with him, as well.

My favorite scene in the book was about a wife trying to give hints to her husband and how he was clueless about her euphemisms. So realistic! Hilarious!

Love on a Whim by Suzanne Woods Fisher is an appealing story. I thought Love on a Whim was well-written with developed, realistic characters. I enjoyed catching up with Marnie, Dawn, Callie, Lincoln, and, especially, Leo (the Cowboy). I could relate to Brynn who is a success at her job but feels unfulfilled. She made an impulsive decision while at a conference and panicked (I am sure we have all made decisions that we regret the next morning). A change of locale plus being with good friends may be just what Brynn needs. We meet Lincoln’s son, Bear, who has a bad attitude towards his father, Lincoln, as well as the Dixon’s. Lincoln’s daughter is getting married and over-the-top is a mild term for the nuptials. Forgiveness is the main theme in Love on a Whim. Bruno said two of my favorite quotable lines, “Forgiveness is an essential ingredient for any meaningful relationship” and “Nothing is impossible with God.” I was a tad disappointed with the ending (I do not want to give anything away). I wanted a certain event to be described, so I could experience it instead of being told about it. While Love on a Whim can be read as a standalone, I do recommend reading the Cape Cod Creamery series in order which will allow you to get the full experience. I like that Marnie’s best friend, Maeve Grayson, from the Three Sisters Island series, is included in the story. I enjoyed the quotes relating to ice cream before each chapter. My two favorites are, “Ice cream is cheaper than therapy” and “I’m skipping dinner and going straight for the pints.” I will miss my visits to Cape Cod as well as the scrumptious ice cream descriptions (do you think I can get Dawn to send me a couple pints of Double-Fold Vanilla).

Love on a Whim. The third and (final?) book in the Cape Cod Creamery series. Here we get the third gal of the story--Brynn. and wow. One thing about these books--they always start off with a bang! Each of the three books immediately start you with a major problem that the character is thrust into.

Dawn--she was a jilted bride
Callie--she had just dealt with a massive food poisoning event
Marnie--she was diagnosed with cancer and had lost her husband

And Brynn...she gets married in VEGAS on a whim and then runs away! Wowzer!

Honestly I love books that just drop us right into the major conflict issue. LOL. Exciting from the start.
As with the other books, we still get the inner mind of Dawn and Marnie along for the ride with Brynn. Because they aren't done with their stories yet.

and Bear Hayes. Poor Bear Hayes. So much childhood trauma that is shaping his adult life choices. I think that people will totally identify with SOMEONE in this series. Some of the book is predictable (like Bear and TD), but then things morph in new directions. (emotional Dawn!)

So much of the main theme of these books has simply been that when we have faith in God, and truly put him first, than we can TRUST that He IS in control. We can LEAVE it for him. We don't need to take it back just because it may not go the way we think it should. Oh how guilty we as humans are of that. "I changed my mind. I'll take care of it myself"

Highly recommend this series. Plus it has lots of great food in it. LOL.
4.5 stars.
