I honestly don't think I've ever cried after reading a graphic novel - until now. I really enjoyed Mall Goth and highly recommend it. In one way or another, Liv is all of us, struggling to fit in and figure out who she is.

3.6/5. This is a great book and very important re: grooming, and our main was great! I do wish, however, that with the amount of storylines that we had gotten more - either more time with the plots, or more POVs for the characters besides our main, or both! I think it would have really bumped up the book.

Liv and her family have just moved to town, and Liv is worried about being the new kid, especially as an awkward, bisexual goth. It doesn’t help that her parents marriage is rocky, and she rarely sees her dad. Luckily, there’s always the mall! She does start to make friends, but things get awkward when the boy who flirts with her already has a girlfriend, and when her English teacher takes personal interest in her. Who can she turn to for help, and who are her real friends?

A really good YA graphic novel about finding oneself and finding real friendship, and about being Goth in the early ‘00s. Really fun read, with some serious subjects.

Content warning: inappropriate teacher/student relationship.

As an 80's Mall Goth, I found this charming. Themes were a little Afterschool Special in the best ways.

Liked this read okay but wish we spent more time getting to know the other characters and that this was a bit longer as it felt a bit rushed with all that happened within this book. Some good themes tackled here though so I’d recommend it - friendship, inappropriate adult-child relationships, divorce, and the importance of communication.
