I’ll admit I kinda dragged my feet to finish this one, I don’t know why miscommunication/keeping secrets is SUCH a heavy theme for PNR but I just get bored with it? 2 hours left of the audio version, 45 minutes of which ended up being an epilogue & bonus novella and they FINALLY discover they’re both not human, and the implications of that. I know it ended up carrying strong plot points but I just wish romance as a genre could move onto other conflicts? Idk.

My griping about keeping secrets aside, this was cute. A vampire that wants to stop hunting humans, and a djinn that gave up her powers to be human because of love… it worked. Their struggles worked. The AA angle felt a little disingenuous at times but the way the authors tied it up with a bow at the end also really worked. It’s a cute romance.

The steamy factor was more than most lesbian fics I’ve read but it was still pretty tame. Two major scenes that weren’t fade to black and a decent amount of tension, but really the focus was on their feelings and found family.

For the length, I really need something to start (not instalove or sex) like a kiss before the 60% mark? It was a lot of back and forth scenes. It was a little frustrating because they are both mythical beings but neither one could tell something was off? I understand they were enamored with each other and they really were a cute couple. I'm glad it didn't end in a cliffhanger!
