A collection of very earnest and personal stories by authors and writers about why libraries are so very important. A sentiment I hold dear to my heart. I fear that anyone who picks up this book will already be in the choir that it sings to and that those readers who pick it up on a whim not knowing what to expect may find it a little dry. Nevertheless the message is important to share and proceeds from the book go to The Reading Agency who are good eggs so give it a try.

This is a collection of essays (mostly) with quite variable quality. Most are passionate, some are eloquent, others less so.

Some better than others. I'm a trained librarian and it is a great reminder of what a rich industry I'm in

Enjoyable collection of essays and short fiction celebrating the magic of libraries. Good book to dip into in small bites.

Short pieces about how authors were affected by having access to libraries early in their lives. Nothing really surprising here, except the one odd short ghost story. For readers, some of the pieces are well enough written that memories will be kindled. (Yep, that thar's sort of a joke, son.) It did spark me to post a rage on FB about the criminal status of libraries and bookstores here in Pampanga. Think I'll even post an entire short story of mine on FB, which opens in the public library in Brush, Colorado in 1961.
