"I’m not ever going to force you, Colt. You’ve gotta know that. But sometimes I just wanna shake some g0ddamn sense into you.” - Noah

"He makes me want. Even though it's him." - Colton

Noah lives with his uncle Walter, who is a father figure for him after his parents passed away. Colton lives with his brother Lawson, Jackson, Remi and his parents on the same piece of land. That's how they grew up, and they are a very close family. Both Noah & Colton make shoes for horses, so they are rivals, and this is a double bi-awakening small-town romance. This book was just very frustrating to read for a big part of the book, both of them hate each other. In the beginning, it was kind of playful/funny, but they kept having the same behaviours. And after saying the words "it didn't mean anything" a few times, that started to hurt them. They are both ALMOST 40, and still acting that way like children even after apologising. There was hardly any progress. Towards the ending, I started liking them together more; I wished that them being nicer to each other was a bit earlier in the book; that felt rushed to me.

“Colt. I’m trying to be an adult here.” - Noah

“By all means, please do try.” - Colton

Colton can talk about his feelings with his brother Remi, and I loved those moments, but Colton is so mean to Noah. At one point Noah texted him to ask if he was okay, to make sure that he hadn't crossed Colton's boundaries, but apparently that was "none of his business". I don't really like Colton (he's a good brother, but for a long time it didn't seem like he had any respect for Noah). I like that Noah was more dominant and put Colton in his place (literally put him over his shoulder), and Colton was so confused about why he liked that. I really love the Darling family. I love that they are close together, but I just KNOW Colton was raised better than this, to have respect and talk things through. I do really like Noah and the familiar moments within the family.

I received an ARC copy of this book.

Now, this was a lot better compared to the first book. This one had the tension that the first book lacked and it worked so much better. I really enjoyed this book and it had me hooked from beginning to ending. I'm so excited for the next one since I predict it's a friends to lovers

The characters don’t behave like they’re in their late 30s, which was frustrating at times, but I did enjoy this book.

The setting feels rich, and I enjoyed the romantic tension between our leads. That being said, the history behind the animosity between the two was revealed way too late in the book. The backstory or at least an explanation of their bickering would have helped make Colton come off more mature, since between the two, he was way too bratty in the first half of the book.

“I can’t stop thinking about you. You’re in my f-cking head. Invading my life. You’re everywhere I goddamn look. Everything I see.”

Brim Over Boot is the second book in the Darling Brothers series by @emmysandersmm , and it was one of my most anticipated reads for this year!

We first met Colton and Noah in Sweet Like Whiskey. Colton is one of the Darling Brothers, and Noah was introduced as his ‘archnemesis’ (yes, the hatred is that strong). I knew I absolutely needed their story from the moment Ash told Colt “Maybe you two just need to bang it out.”

The two are both farriers in the small town of Darling, Montana, and are rivals both personally and professionally.

I absolutely loved their story! The rivalry is strong from the start, and even when things start to shift the tension between them remains, leading to some super 🔥 moments between them.

Noah’s dirty talk is exceptional, and the nickname Little Colt was absolute perfection.
If you like arguing as a form of foreplay- you’ll definitely love their dynamic.

I also adored the appearances of the rest of the Darling Family, and am already super excited for Lawson’s book next, and Remi’s after that!

Emmy has absolutely crushed it again with this enemies to lovers story. Give Colton “goddamn” Darling and Noah “f-cking” king a chance- you won’t regret it!

I am once again completely 𝒘𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒅 in the best way.

This double bi-awakening, small-town rivals-to-lovers story hit 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 emotional note. Watching Colton and Noah navigate their complicated history and growing attraction was everything. Noah's quiet acceptance of his identity contrasted beautifully with Colton's struggle—and let’s be real, half of Colton’s “confusion” was totally just him catching feelings for Noah and not knowing what to do with them.

Their chemistry? Off the charts. Their growth? So raw and real. And their love story? Utterly unforgettable.

Emmy Sanders has this magical ability to write stories that transcend star ratings. This book isn’t just a romance—it's an experience. And just like always, I’m already craving the next one. 💙🌈
