This is a dark one. It’s hard to read about kids being kidnapped and abused. It’s hard to see them try to move on and live their lives after. It’s an amazing thriller mystery too. It’s just very very heavy. Lots of twists and turns. It was hard for me to deal with the jumping around of characters and time but eventually you fall into it and then you can’t put it down.

This was a really immersive, enjoyable read!  It was long and required me to take it in small bites, which I enjoyed.  There are hard truths in this book, but the writing is wonderful and the characters are fully realized.  Definitely worth reading!  5 stars

I liked it overall but it was very long winded.  We could have shortened the middle.

Early on I thought this would be a 4 star book, but by the end I would have given it a million stars. There is quite a lot of vulgarity which I could have done without, and it is often unnecessarily flowery with the language, but the story more than makes up for these. This is a looooong book, but so worth it. So many twists and turns and yet every surprise feels fully earned. The author leaves little details that seem like nothing but when the surprise happens, you wonder how you didn’t see it. A beautiful, mysterious, crime, coming of age, love story, thriller - genre defying novel about a pirate and a beekeeper.

I’ll be thinking about Saint and Patch for a long time. The pacing in this book was a bit uneven The beginning felt like a heart pounding thriller, then it mellowed into a slow literary mystery, and ended with another burst of intensity that kept me turning pages until late at night. I found the amount of grief and tragedy to be overwhelming at a few points—this is one I would probably save for when you’re in a good place mentally and/or plan for a palate cleanser after. I’ll be indulging in a rom-com next for sure. Despite some of its flaws, I found the characters super compelling, and the ending with all of its reveals was beyond satisfying.

I have intense and mixed feelings about this.

Did I like it? No.
Was it well executed? Yes.

TLDR: “The Lovely Bones” if it was a very southern feeling coming of age novel- except of his whole ass life- and the story of navigating purpose and relationships with wild CPTSD.
