Solid murder-mystery thriller. While the tone is atmospheric and spooky, the odd-couple dynamic and Carl’s unpredictability provided levity and excitement. The ending broke my heart but was extremely satisfying.
Zero akcji, mega wolne tempo i brak napięcia.

Grace (we don’t find out her name until the very end) goes on a weird road trip with Carl, the man she believes killed her sister. Carl, a famous photographer, has dementia and is not to be trusted.
Carl did not kill. Grace’s sister Rachel. The man who took Rachel’s l senior pictures killed her. She closely resembled his daughter who had died, and he became obsessed. Carl figures this out because the stamp on the back of the picture has the address — I don’t know .... I don’t get how he figured it out? But anyway, Carl eventually brings Grace to that man’s wife and the woman is arrested for covering up the crime.
It seems Carl did do something bad to someone, but that is vague. He dies and leaves Grace the old house in the woods, which happens to have gold bars hidden — so maybe that’s the bad thing he did? He stole gold bars?
I love the author’s research and the way she twists it into her books.

I struggled at first to get into it. Then it seemed to pick up steam and I got about halfway. And then I got soooo bored. I left at chapter 38 and started to read again at chapter 68, yes - skipping a whole of 30 chapters - and except for a few details the plot in my head didn’t suffer for it. Half that book didn’t matter for the plot. Read Day 10 in one swoop, and glad I did what I did. There was no character development worth the wasting of time.

Cinematic and fun to read, but the ending was a little too unexpected
This is one of those books that just seemed disjointed to me. It was hard for me to follow the story and I just didn't enjoy it. My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a galley of this book for review.
