Apparently this is better in the book form (instead of audio) because you actually get to see the photos? Possibly I could have paid a bit more attention that way to. This one was okay for me. It was interesting enough. A lot of it seemed rather unbelievable.
Probably less than 4, but I round up, and the narrator of the audio version was in any case very good. The plot weakens in the middle section, but the reader is still given a good road trip, and the big skies of Texas. The potential of the premise is squandered - so no great existential conversations, no journals to Paris or Ithaca - but nonetheless a solid thriller.
slow-paced
Rachel's sister has made it her life goal to exact revenge on her killer. After extensive training and researching, she essentially breaks a suspected serial killer (Carl Feldman) out of a home and attempts to jog his aging memory-- and ultimately, a confession.
The best thing going for this book is the unique plot line. Keeping the reader in the dark about the narrator was absolutely brilliant-- it tied into the obsession that she finds herself in. I flew through this book because I was DYING to get into the mind of Carl. I wanted to know whether or not he killed. Who he killed. When he killed. How he killed.
I do agree with others readers that the end was a little.. messy. I didn't particularly like the epilogue, but the first 3/4 of the book more than made up for that.

It's an interesting premise but overall felt bland which could be attributed to lack of descriptions.

I had so much hope for this book since the plot sounded so interesting but I honestly, it let me down. The first 3rd was really good, then it just went into a direction I didn't like. Plus I couldn't relate to any of the characters and their dumb choices felt so fake.
page turning adventure where the mystery isn't where you expect.
We read the UK version of the novel as it seems those Brits are really into all things Texas (wondering if the photo descriptions and no photos except the one of the pair of girls is peculiar to the non US version of the book?) and object to the false impression of Texas (what Texan in their right mind would violate common civility and scam credit card customers/businesses with documents from the dark web or wander around in bizarre costumes?)! Also, I value Resistol/Stetson products with a large number of Xs to denote their quality and could care less about the crease (I consider the style of boot more significant and telling than any hats)! As a member of the local Texas Crime Stoppers board I would have been interested in a reward to anyone reporting Grace's felonious escapades. I was interested in the reporting of the value of GPS trackers as our Crime Stoppers have invested in many of these useful devices. The "ghosts" reminded me more of the remarkable Pooka friend of Jimmy Stewart in "Harvey".
At least "Harvey" had some insightful quotes "Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be," — she always called me Elwood — "In this world, you must be oh so smart, or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me." Heaberlin comes up with nothing really useful or amusing! the "ghosts" in those "Topper" films (and The Canterville Ghost) were interesting and humorous along with the contemporary film "Winchester" certainly portrayed the eerie poltergeists and spirits of that San Jose mansion most entertainingly!
