a good flynn novel, just maybe not better than sharp objects.
Books with unreliable narrators are enjoyable and interesting to me. These two, Amy and Nick, though? I didn't even remotely like either of them. In fact the only even remotely likable character in the book is the woman detective, Rhonda Boney. While not being likable isn't necessarily a deal breaker - loved Girl on a Train and the main character there wasn't likable either - Amy and Nick are intolerably unlikable. Nick is a whiny dumbass and Amy is a narcissistic sociopath. Two stars for excellent writing by Ms. Flynn and for the well done insight into a disturbed mind.
I absolutely love Gillian Flynn. She is a fantastic writer who always manages to creates these really messed up characters and lives with such a compelling mystery and shocking twists. Such a good book which really does give me the creeps, but fantastic nonetheless.
I have now officially read all of Gillian Flynn's books, and I really enjoyed this one!
The story and the characters were so twisted, and the last hour or so of the audiobook was insaaaane.

I read the first paragraph of this book and already knew it was gonna be right up my alley. I adored the writing of this book and the plot kept me constantly interested. With mystery/thrillers i tend to zone out or get disconnected from the story fairly easily but this kept me consistently engaged. I loved libby's characters and how she responded to everything that was going on around her. I enjoyed the tentative friendship built throughout this book as well. The shifting perspectives, something i usually dont enjoy, really kept me on edge throughout the book which i appreciated. Overall i loved this book and im very interested to read more by Gillian Flynn now! :o

Ben Day hanya ingin disayang orangtuanya dan diakui lingkungan sekitarnya.
Patty Day hanya ingin anak-anaknya Ben, Michelle, Debbie dan Libby hidup bahagia
Arghhh! Novel psikologi thriller ini membuat saya frustasi yang membacanya.. emosi saya diaduk-aduk dengan alur cerita yaang luaaar biasaaaa lambaatnyaa dan saya benci untuk membaca masing2 POV untuk mengetahui akar permasalahan sebenarnya.. daamn butuh waktu untuk menyelesaikan novel ini dan perasaaan saya pun menjadi hampa.. there is no such a grasp feeling within me. Biasa aja seperti habis baca gone girl.. tapi tetep sih gak nyangka juga klo pembunuhnya si ****
untung endingnya lumayan saya berikan 2,9 dari 5 bintang deh untuk buku ini.. klo segi kelambatan cerita saya anugerahkan 1,5 bintang deh klo ga kuat tengah jalan hampir mau saya DNF.. 6 hari loh rekor saya membaca buku ini.. padahal biasanya untuk membaca novel inggris maksimal 3 hari.. jezz.. *stress

I’d read Gillian Flynn’s previous two books, Sharp Objects (which I liked) and Dark Places (which I didn’t), but this book – wowowowowow. It’s so much better than those, or than many other mysteries or thrillers I’ve read. This book was impossible to put down. I read it in bed well past the time I should have been asleep, and read it early in the morning when I should have been getting ready for work. This may be one of my top ten reads for the year.
Here is an excerpt of the Kobo store’s summary:
Marriage can be a real killer…Gillian Flynn takes that statement to its darkest place in this unputdownable masterpiece about a marriage gone terribly, terribly wrong…On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy’s diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media – as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents – the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter – but is he really a killer? As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love.
On the morning of Nick and Amy’s fifth wedding anniversary, Amy goes missing. He quickly becomes the prime suspect. Chapters alternate between Nick’s narration and between Amy’s narration through her diary. And that’s where I have to stop with the plot because – trust me – you should read this knowing as little as possible. You really don’t want to spoil this one!
This book had me both loving and despising Nick and Amy the whole way. As the reader, we see their relationship from its beginning to its much-altered present state, and their marriage seems to have gone very very rocky. Against the backdrop of Amy’s disappearance, it was chilling at times, and so engrossing. Like I said, I seriously could not put this book down.
The pacing and characterization and manner in which characters reveal things about themselves are brilliant, because I was surprised by so much of it. Oh, I thought I had things figured out, and then I was blindsided (more than once). The secondary characters that factor into this book, from the small-town cops conducting their investigation to Nick’s family and Amy’s parents, are all so well-written and interesting, and I found myself scrutinizing everything that everyone said or did in an attempt to unravel this mystery.
I wish I had more to write, but it would just be a variation on ‘I loved this book and you should read it’, or plot spoilers that I’m trying to avoid! If you like a good mystery, you will love this book.

I'm so glad I'm done. I started it and it was engaging and I wanted to keep going but by a certain point, I was just like, "Hey, can we be done yet?" And even then I still wanted to find out what was going to happen next, if there were going to be any more twists, if I could be surprised any more. So, I guess, this book has to get a 2-2.5 and not lower, because it wasn't an awful or even bad book and I can also understand why so many people enjoy it so much. It's kind of gripping. But I feel like I can't go above a 2 if I totally dislike both of the main characters. Like, I understand stories can be good with unlikeable characters, but... no. This was just so frustrating to read at several points. And the rest will be very spoilery so:
Honestly, after reading past Part 1, I was ready for them to both die. I wanted them done, gone. I mean Nick didn't kill anyone but he was gross and annoying, and they are both just frustrating terrible people. And now they are going to have a baby? I'm so mad. This book made me so mad. You can only sustain your book on just the suspense and mystery of it all for so long. At some point, you've got to do more than that. I'm just also just... tired of bleakness. I don't want to watch more shows or read more books that are bleak, hopeless. You know. Yeah.
