This was an entertaining book to read while I was deciding what series I wanted to start next, and if you are in need of a quick stand-alone, I would recommend this to you.

However, it wasn't my favorite. The writing was sort of bland, and I ended up unimpressed by the main character.

Quinn Edwards has always seen Grayson Hawkes as her main speech and debate rival. When they are named co-captains of the team, Quinn is determined to come out on top in the end. After an AP government assignment is mixed up upon return, Quinn starts a secret penpal relationship with a male classmate. As the season goes on, Quinn begins to fall not only for Grayson, whom she doesn't completely trust, but her unknown pen pal. This was another one of those cute rom-coms where the girl is completely caught off guard in the end.

One of my favorite movies is you've got mail so anything with a similar storyline is a win. I liked this better than Alex, Approximately which is the same idea but this was better written.

This is a quick, easy read that would be perfect for high school girls. It follows the typical formula of a romance novel. The reader figures out the catch long before the characters do, and the rest of the book is filled with that great frustration of yelling at characters who are so willingly ignoring the obvious.

*SPOILERS-ISH*
If you read the front inside cover as I did, then you basically knew the entire plot. Typically with these kinds of books where there's a mystery boy/girl, I can speculate, but the synopsis literally gave it all away, and there was no way the author would add a twist when so much character development was spent on one specific possibility. I thought it was cute overall, but the plot had too much predictability and sway over the reader to like certain characters. I felt as if Grayson had more detail put into him that made him more likable and the person I rooted for, however, Carter was always portrayed as friend-zoned and annoying even though he and Quinn were friends for 10 years? There were just some things that didn't sit right with me despite being a page-turner.

This is one of those books where everyone completely ignores that the fact the female MC is kinda horrible for now reason to the male MC. The book doesn't such Grayson being mean to Quinn, just bantering.

Tiana Smith writes clean YA romance and I’m HERE for it. Because I’m 14 at heart I love young adult books, and I especially love the pure relationships in Smith’s books. + no swearing!!! I didn’t do speech and debate in HS but this book was still wholly loveable. It had some “you’ve got mail” vibes which of course who doesn’t love that. I love Quinn. I love Grayson. This book is sweet and pure with some teenage drama thrown in the mix. Big fan.

I throughly enjoyed this book. It was a quick read for me. I loved the characters because they were relatable, fun, and genuine. I found it refreshing that while Quinn was great at debate, she still struggled in other areas of school and wasn't a genius. It made her seem more normal and down to earth. As for Grayson, he is fairly good at most things, but that's due to family pressures and studying from what we can tell since it's told from Quinn's perspective. I wish we got more insight to his life and saw how he interacted with friends. It seemed as if he had none.

I liked Quinn's best friend Naomi and thought their interactions were fun and supportive of each other. There was one scene in the book that was a bit heart-wrenching, but otherwise the book is lighthearted, fun, witty, and smart.

If you like enemies/rivals to more, You've got Mail, and/or competitive MC's, this book is for you.

I should have known to pass on this one based on it’s silly title which does nothing to sell the story. This book promises a love/hate type romance, set against the backdrop of speech and debate. However, it’s super clear really early on that despite the minor setbacks and trappings that occur, the two main characters will wind up together. That’s not spoiling anything, it’s just plain fact.
