while the story alone is enough reason to read this one, the artwork is stunning. The use of color and textures and even different lettering evokes so much emotion. I found myself repeatedly amazed at how many panels looked like ready-to-frame art: not beautiful comic panels, but something entirely different than what I never expected from a Batman comic.
I didn't like this graphic novel as much as the other ones that I have read but it was ok.
This is about how the Joker seemingly has control of Arkham Asylum and wants Batman to come. When Batman gets there he has to deal with the inmates and Joker and someone he was not expecting to deal with.
I thought that this book was ok. When Joker spoke it was really hard to read and at times I had to guess what some of the words were. That made it difficult to read and a little confusing. The art for me was not helping my confusion, I did not like the art in it at all.
I was expecting it to be a lot scarier than it was and it was a bit disappointing that it was not scary at all.
Overall it was ok and a good one to read for October.

I've read this book 3 or 4 times now, and it really does need multiple reads to get a sense of what's going on (the annotated script in the special editions doesn't hurt either). But once you do get a handle on things, it really is a compelling, if not sometimes disturbing book. It builds a mythology around Arkham Asylum that would go on to inspire multiple forms of Batman media and it dives into the darkness of Batman's own damaged mind. It's definitely not for everyone, but it's got a lot for those who put in the work.
