I have wanted to try one of Kerrigan Byrne’s books for a long time, and The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo did not disappoint (though I still think the title is hideous). The story was engaging, moving, and sexy. I am going to have to go back and start at the beginning of this series!

this is the first pirate plot to grace my read shelf, FINALLY. can't say i'm disappointed in the slightest. i mean finding out
Spoilerdorian's been ALIVE this whole mf time? speechless. but also not surprised i mean, dougan did say he was basically his twin and called him sexy and tall in book#1, so he HAS to stick around. obviously lol.

anyway, there seems to be no shortage of hot men in the 19th-century-victorian-rebel-verse (even tho in Victorian England there were significantly more women than men, which was actually an issue at the time

The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo was my first read in the Victorian Rebels series but I was really excited to read Rook's story as he was briefly mentioned in a few of books from the The Goode Girls series which I absolutely loved. It was well written and I really loved Rook and Lorelai's romance. It pacing was a bit slow at times and I thought that the ending was abrupt and a bit predictable but all-in-all, this was a very satisfying read.

I had been hoping to hear more about the pirate lord, Rook, and was surprised to learn his connection to earlier characters. I am glad they did recap because its been awhile since I read the first one and did not realize right away.

As usual Byrne delivers a story which the angst is turned up pretty darn high. However, nothing beats the first book of the series for angst and honestly, in this case, the crap that happened to the hero was horrendous so I had much more sympathy for his difficulty dealing with emotion. Knowing him as a young, broken man only notched up the emotions.
SpoilerI get teary eyed just thinking about how that poor, sweet boy was treated.

I felt bad for thinking this but I was pleased for once
Spoilerthe hero and heroines were virgins. I mean their love for each other was epic so it only made sense

While I prefer feisty heroines I think Lorelei was lovely and very well written. She is a gentle soul but strong in her own way. I felt for her
Spoilerand only wished her brother would die a

gruesome death
.

I'm tentatively looking forward to the next, though I fear it the levels of angst.
