I don’t remember this episode of My Little Pony…….

4.5 Stars

I'm not even sure where to start this one, and I didn't have much of an idea of what I was getting to with it other than that it would probably be intense, which if definitely was. I can only imagine what it would be like to see this story unfold on the stage (and there are lots of stage directions to help with that! Especially with the horses and movement).

This was compelling, and questioning, and at times shocking and other times sad. I don't quite know what I feel about it, but I know that I was feeling all throughout reading it. Still need to process it, but that is a sign of an engaging read.

Loved this. It's a fascinating mess. I can't wait to teach it.

creepy

A brilliant parable about how the modern, Apolloian, post-Christianity society is destroying humanity's natural Dionysian impulses.

Again, almost certainly stunted from reading this play instead of watching it and benefitting from the staging and choreography. It seems like the best part of this show is not its dialogue, and that was all I had to work with. The monologues could be impressive and beautiful. The themes of worship, normality, and the self-critical look at therapy were all very interesting and I'm still digesting it. But, the whole thing ended up reading clunkily to me, and I wished Heather was a bit more fleshed out as a foil to Dysart. The symbol of the horse is undeniably powerful and I think I'm going to look up an actual production and watch that, but the script doesn't fully stand on its own.

guy on the plane side eyed me bc of the cover, accurate response to the entire play. definitely a favorite of mine.

A super fascinating play about passion, what society defines as normal and ideas of worship: It is interesting to explore the contrast of insanity versus "normality" and why insanity might seem to be the better choice. Really good!

Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

This play challenges ideas of religion and mysticism, forcing the reader to confront what is considered holy, and what is not. Can there even be a set definition? Great play.

A gentle, uplifting beach read about a boy who blinds 6 horses with a hoof pick and the subsequent psychological evaluation by a shrink who desperately tries to understand the reasoning behind this horrific act of violence and, in turn, risks to lose a bit of his own sanity. It's awesome. 6/5 stars.
