It got an extra star purely for that plot twist! That and the epilogue were absolutely mind blowing

Another great addition to THE PROGRAM series! I liked the revelation about how certain things happened before Sloane and James existed, and to be honest I like this concept better than the previous books. The idea of a "closer," someone who helps take away the grief from families. As you can imagine, that's the kind of job that needs emotional hazard pay. Author Suzanne Young doesn't hold back in dumping heaps of emotional baggage and heartache on main character Quinlan. The story is a roller coaster of emotion and was truly heartbreaking to read at some points, given how viciously she was attacked emotionally by the people she was trying to help. I found Quinn to be a very interesting character, caught between the life she wants, the life she's forced to take, and the lies that barely hold her together. The romances between her and Deacon were bittersweet, and the family drama was almost painful to witness. Still, I was happy with the end result of the book and am really looking forward to where its sequel will go, considering the cliffhanger-y endings.

This was such a bizarre book. It was the prequel to the series…. Slowly explaining how it all began. This one has completely different characters than the first 2 but things are slowly starting to make sense. There was a program before the program. People can hire a Closer to help with getting closure of their loved ones after they pass. A closer comes in and acts like the person who recently passed away and it's supposed to help the family to move on. It's such a weird concept but so interesting.

“I love her,” he breathes out.
“I know you do, son,” he tells him. “And that’s exactly why you’re the perfect person to be her handler.”
Hot damn this novel. I wasn’t convinced, not at first. Where’s Sloan & James? I didn’t want a prequel, I wanted to know how the eff the world was recovering after the Program. But this was a hidden GEM. The initial fear, the start, the beginning of the end. This is how it started and this is how the collapse begins. Absolutely loved it, if you liked the Program, don’t hesitate to pick this up.
