The Many Deaths of Laila Starr is a quick read that has a lasting impact after finishing. Following Death after she has been let go of her job due to humanity soon discovering immortality was a fun concept to read about. I loved that despite being turned mortal and not being able to do her job deaths still follows her wherever she goes much affecting the man who will eventually creat everlasting life. The art style and writing format was beautiful and every character no matter how minor had a powerful impact on Laila throughout her mortal journey. The ending was ambiguous and is really up to the reader to reflect on what Laila’s final decision is. Normally I don’t reread graphic novels but I could see myself revisiting this one in the future.

First off, the art in this was absolutely stunning. And the variant covers that were included in this collected volume are so gorgeous, and a real treat to add in. This story follows the goddess of death on her new found mortal path as it intersects with the boy who would transcend humanity's bond to mortality. It creates an atmosphere of tension and reflection and appreciation all at once as our fallen goddess comes to appreciate the facets of humanity that she had ignored or forgotten in her eternal life, even while she doesn't actively realize it - as she feels she is on her quest to thwart Darius in his goal of finding immortality. We also get one of my favorite - I hesitate to call it a trope but I'm not sure how else to refer to it - tropes of life coveting/loving/protecting death because without one the other is meaningless. This is a beautiful and quick read that will leave you feeling reflective and appreciative of every moment.

This was a beautiful and dynamic storyline. It could almost be considered more of a modern fable. The art is STUNNING! My favorite part was the included variant covers. Every interaction is well thought out and intentional. this could be read in one sitting and should be read by everyone!

I really liked this! It reminded me of Sandman. The art, especially the coloring, was beautiful. I'd love to read more by this author.

Short but sweet

Both an apt review for this collected book and for life. Like Daytripper, one of my favorite books of all time, this deals in the heavy subject of humanity's mortality through the lens of a cycle. A cycle that is only complete with life, death and the lifetime in between. There's a lot to ponder after this but art like this is why I love it all - the ones that make us take a step back of our daily grind.
