This is the first book in a dark romantasy series, Patrons of the Divine. Tropes and themes include badass themes, feminine rage, hate to love, LGBTQ+ rep, found family, secret identities and a sometimes cinnamon roll MMC. There is some adult spice content and, given this is a DARK story, please check content warnings.

The Lovely: I loved the world-building and magic system. The world is made up of distinct regions in that they have their own climates and topographies, and the people of those regions have different physical characteristics and clothing traditions. There’s just enough detail to make it interesting without being overwhelming.

The Mundane: I liked the characters, especially the found family aspect. At times, retired assassin Mika didn’t feel like she was all that skilled (especially after being kidnapped/taken more than once). I loved some of the funny interactions - such as the ducks (IYKYK).

Rating: 4/5 Stars 2/5 Flames

Recommendation: I received an advance review copy, and am leaving this review voluntarily. The ending is full of twists and turns and ultimately ends on a cliff. I was satisfied with what we did learn about the characters and situation, and what was left open. I will definitely be reading the next book when it releases.

This was such an amazing debut from the very first page I was instantly pulled in by the beautiful writing and as we slowly learn more about the fmc Mika and the group of misfits she finds herself on the journey with.

The plot was so engaging and as soon as I got to the 30% mark I couldn’t put it down. The world building is so intriguing and so very descriptive it makes it so easy to visualise everything so clearly. The journey this book takes you on is amazing, the feminine rage, the found family, LGBTQ rep, the beautifully slow burn romance and the mental health rep were all written with so much care and exceptionally well crafted to keep you turning the page.

The plot really took a wild ride of twists and turns and revelations I can’t wait to see what comes next and how everything unfolds especially after the ending. Amazing highly recommend!

This story….this damn story. Had me gripped from the moment I started it and I binged it in 24 hours. I couldn’t put it down, I loved every character and their backstory. I loved the budding romance between two of them (I’m not saying who as I don’t want to give any of the plot away!!) and I loved the kickassery of Mika. The writing style is not only immersive but well detailed and extremely engaging. The ending had me reeling which I knew you’d do to me!!! The twist in those last few chapters I didn’t see coming. Null and Void is out August 15th and please, if you love fantasy, assassins, a band of misfits and an interesting magical gift system then give this a go!! Thank you to R Moody for an arc of this wonderful book, now off you go and get writing book 2 please and thank you

Thank you to R&R Book Tours and R. Moody for an advanced copy of this book. Null & Void follows Mika, the retired Silent Assassin, as she goes on a mission to recover a missing princess alongside a prince, two Patrons, and a commander.
This story is very unique. I appreciated the storytelling, as well as the map, glossary, and content warnings provided.
If you are looking for a well-written high fantasy romance, then this book is for you. I absolutely loved the writing style and how Mika's emotions were described throughout the book.
The character development is strong, and the formed relationships between Mika, Riley, Tovi, and the others had me really captivated!! This book was well paced, too.
That ending had a major cliffhanger, so I definitely need the second book soon!!! The plots twists had me gasping at the pages.
I would highly recommend Null & Void.

 4.5 stars! Full review soon

"Once an assassin, always an assassin."

THAT ENDING!! The last 40 pages were full of chaos (in a good way) and a giant twist that I didn't see coming.

The beginning was a bit hard to get through, especially the first 160 pages, but I'm so glad I stuck with it, this was amazing!

We follow Mika, also known as the now-retired Silent Assassin, who is a Null or someone who doesn't have a 'power'. Believing she has escaped her past, Mika is soon sold to another kingdom to help locate and rescue their missing princess. She embarks on this journey with one of the best motley crews I’ve ever read: Beans, Riley, Bitty, and Tovi. I loved the found family aspect of this! There were so many great moments during their travels that will put a smile on your face! At first, I thought there were too many characters, but it was easy to follow, they are all amazing and have their own loveable personalities.

There was so much sexual tension in this omg, I just LOVED the chemistry between Mika & Riley!

-fmc is an assassin at first, though at first, she doesn’t come across as one and seems more childish than a strong assassin character. However, she has moments where her strength as an assassin shines through, which is quite intriguing. The second half of the book definitely highlights her redeeming qualities.

-the beginning of them traveling felt like a drag but quickly got more interesting as I read on

“I’d almost risk it. For one taste.” He leans closer, and closer. “But I’ll wait,” he says to the place where the corner of my lips meets my cheek. His lips brush my skin as he speaks. “It’ll be worth it.”

I cant wait for book 2!!

❥Assassin FMC
❥Cinnamon Roll MMC, yet has bad boy vibes
❥Hidden Identity
❥An Imposter (not saying who but omg!! that twist)
❥Twists upon twists!!
❥Found Family
❥Forced proximity
❥Morally grey mmc
❥One Bed
❥Hate to Love
❥Reluctant Hero/Heroine
❥Feminine rage
❥LGBTQ+ cast & diverse rep
❥Court politics/political intrigue

Thank you for the ARC, R. Moody!!

Loved getting to read through this story as early as possible! The character development is great, and descriptions of having to deal with lingering traumas and resulting fears pull at you from the very beginning. Unfinished series...I assume. I mean, it'd better be. Haha

✨4 stars ✨
🌶️2 spice 🌶️

’I was only my rage. And I was happy with my solitary life.
Happy.
Was that happiness?’

Wow. What an absolute roller coaster of emotions I have just been on.

Before I begin this review, I would like to thank R. Moody for letting me be an arc reader for this book. And in true fashion, here is my honest review.

I have instantly fallen in love with Riley. Yes, I know I should be talking about our fiery, badass, main character first but I have to express my love for this cinnamon role mmc. Like come on, he calls her firecat, he falls first…he’s adorable and I love him.

Okay, now to our main character. As I said before, fiery and badass. She is also a notorious assassin filled with feminine rage. Her backstory, and also her present as well, was so emotional and at times difficult to read and I want to give her the biggest hug. Her development over the book was truely interesting and I loved seeing the soft parts of her.

Now for the plot, very travelling focus at the beginning but we get the court politics introduced and more and more storyline unfolding as you go through the book. I will say that I found the start a bit slow but that could have also just been me being in a book slump at the beginning.

I’m going to do a summary under here in case you get sick of my blabbering, so if you like:
  • Romantasy
  • Found Family
  • Hate to love
  • Court politics
  • Female assassin
  • Feminine rage
  • Hidden identity
  • Forced Proximity
  • LGBTQ+ rep
  • Diverse representation
then pick this book up on release day! and thank me later

Happy reading 🤍
