This book was a surprise to me. I picked it up on a whim, and then read it in one weekend. Tropper's writing is lovely--his descriptions and his turns of phrase are often whimsical but perfectly create character and mood. There are times when I felt his sibling banter was a little over the top--people always have just the right turn of phrase and just the right witty response, and it didn't ring true--yet it was enjoyable to read. You wouldn't think the premise--a dysfunctional family sitting shiva--would be funny, but I found the book to be quite amusing, and even uplifting by the end. I liked it enough that I'll check out more of his books.

I debated between 3 and 4 stars here. It was pretty good. A few poignant moments, a lot of laugh-out-loud moments. Definitely fun and worth reading, but if you are looking for great literature, this ain't it.

I LOVED this book! I laughed the entire book! A great read
~3.5 stars~
I really enjoyed this book, particularly the strong and funny beginning. The book would later go on to shed a good deal of the funny that enticed me in the beginning, but the end would then go on to have realistic slice of life learning moments.
I definitely would recommend this as a read, especially the audiobook! Ramon De Ocampo was a great narrator; you can really feel his dry delivery!

Toxic masculinity and women as objects (love and lust are one and the same) feature heavily in this novel that fancies itself more enlightened than it is.
I did not like this at all. The characters were deeply unlikeable and the main character’s constant sexual thoughts were icky.
