I do not know what made this one just ok for me. It might have been that it was on audio. The narrator was not bad, but I just felt that the book did not work on audio.

Again I have nothing to say. Jane was cool, there was interesting stuff going on.

But then there were other things, the first person narration, beast talking, the ways she said French names, and I did not like the French accents.

I am also sure I missed half the book when I was half asleep at times. Not a good sign. Good audio will keep me from missing things.

But it was ...ok, but I'd rather read it and see if I still find it ok.

I have been looking for a new urban fantasy series to fall in love with and since this book has been on my to-read list for a while, I decided to give it a shot.
I don't know that this is what I'm looking for. The premise is interesting, but I don't love Jane, or even think I like her much. She's deliberately abrasive, she has a tendency to burst out in inappropriate laughter, and I don't have a ton of confidence in her ability to kick butt.
I AM interested in finding out more about her friend Molly and Molly's family. So I might give this series one more shot- often the first book just lays the bare bones ground work on character and world building. Hopefully I enjoy the second one better.

This was better than I expected. I was expecting paranormal romance but the romance really wasn’t there. The main character was likable-except a few instances where I felt the author was trying too hard to make her cool. The story line was entertaining so I’ll probably read more in this series.

"Unlike more primitive peoples, intellectual, well-educated humans just pretended the things they didn’t understand didn’t exist."

Well, it looks like I'm rating this book a 4 out of 5 the second time around, too. I think it just hit all my buttons. The last time I tried to listen to it in audio. Didn't like it. This time, I did the ebook, which I enjoy because I highlight everything.

Jane is not the most sociable creature to begin with, but she also shares her mind and body with a big cat named Beast. Beast is all about the baser instincts and everything that that probably implies. She wants to be dominant, fight everyone and have some 'kits.' It's fun watching their interaction whether Beast or Jane is in charge at the time.

The mystery was a little lacking because I had suspicions, and then was thrown for a loop, but it ended up being the person I originally suspected. I didn't remember the end from my last reading, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

I couldn't find any new faults with the story or characters outside of that. I grew up right outside New Orleans, so I'm sure that pulled me in a bit more than other stories might. It was great...especially the locals and their Cajun accents, along with descriptions of the French Quarter and how it's constantly muggy even in the wind. Well done. I'm hoping to enjoy the rest of the series just as much, if not more.

Amazing!!

I always thought Native American magic was awesome and that skinwalkers were intriguing. This made them even more so and the book itself was amazing!!

This is an excellent start to a really interesting urban fantasy series. I’ve now read the whole series and I love how cleverly written it all is, with tie ins throughout between novels. Highly recommend for any urban fantasy fans.

This audiobook is 14 hours. I started it last night and just finished (the next night). I have really been looking forward to hearing this audiobook ever since I found out that Kristine Hvam narrates it. I first first heard her narrate the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy and fell in love with her voice. She did all the accents and really brought those books to life. She did not disappoint with Skinwalker. Maybe I shouldn't have been but I was so surprised to hear Jane read with a Southern accent. Beast's voice is almost the same as Jane's but without the twang. I loved it! And Bruiser...she did him with an English accent and made me love him even more! Can't wait to listen to the next in the series.

An intriguing story that spends a little too much time of description and exposition. Could benefit from some more action (not necessarily violent. Just doing something which pushes the plot) and more character development. Jane does most of her development near the end of the book, with most of the cast mostly being tools with very little of their own personalities to make me care about them.

I was going to drop the series half-way through, but the book picked up in the last act well enough that I may pick up the sequel.

Interesting premise, and I liked that I couldn't immediately tell who would be "the guy." I'm still not 100% sure (but I have a good guess). My only complaint was that there seemed to be a LOT of description. Every time she walked into a new house, or room, or part of the city, every door, painting, rug and chair got described. But other than that, it was pretty good. It didn't knock my socks off, but I have it on good authority that the writing just gets better, so I'll be reading the next one.

Been reading this the whole week. Started off kinda difficult cos it's sort of an older book and they were built different. But I gotta say...
I actually ended up enjoying that shit. Jane is so badass and I'm happy the cover did not disappoint me cos she didn't annoy me in any way and FINALLY we have me an actual badass in our hands. Was an interesting read fo sho. Where has she been all my life
