I guess what was going to happen in the end, but I still sobbed.
I was able to maintain composure until the video for Kevin.

You can't beat a great Irish Tale!
Well done, Anne Griffin!

Amazing. Beautiful prose, heartbreaking story, and phenomenal Audible narrator! If you love to listen to stories told in a rich Irish brogue you just have to listen to this one. Wonderful characters. I highly recommend it.

I’m still pondering whether the ending was serene or incredibly sad! The pros just draw you in. It’s incredibly readable and before you know it you’ve pulled up a stool and are metaphorically sat at the bar with Maurice, savouring his whiskey and understanding his viewpoints on life. A must read!

A quintessentially Irish novel though it shares a sensibility with Swift’s LAST ORDERS. Octogenarian and curmudgeon Maurice raises a glass to five family members recalling stories of their shared past. The book feels like a play in many ways and the monologue/soliloquy style allows for a thorough look at grief, loneliness and regret. He’s a character you will hold dear as you sit at the bar with him for one last whiskey.
