Pretty good and quick read. Kid swallows technology pill that takes over his brain and makes him more "cool". It's my worst nightmare as the robots are going to kill us all.
Lots of talk of wanting to have sex and some descriptive "hooking up" language.
Some cursing, but for the most part edited.
Male protagonist. Yay!
Give to 15 and up.

I read this book after listening to/watching the musical. While I knew I would have a bias towards the musical, this was awful. There is no character in this book you want to root for.
Please do not read this if you like the musical. They are entirely different stories with entirely different characters it feels like.

I wanted to read this book because I love the musical (I haven’t seen it I’ve only listened to it) so, if you’re interested in it for the same reason, I have to warn you they are very different. Nonetheless, I still loved this book. I’m a big fan of the way Neil Vizzini writes. He captures a teenagers mind perfectly and portrays anxiety and depression very realistically.
It definitely leaves you wanting more, ending with no epilogue or real conclusion exactly (if you read it you’ll understand why). I honestly thought it was going to end differently, it was quite a surprise how it left off. I do wish I knew what happened to Jeremy and the other characters though.
I definitely recommend!

I love the musical so when I stopped by the library and saw this book I just knew I had to get it. I really enjoyed this book and I finished it pretty quickly.

intriguing book -- written in teen speak, taking place in an alternate universe where Eminem is dead and Keanu lives in your head. Clever use of microtechnology to get the girl. You just need to read it for this to make sense :)

The play was phenomenal so i decided to read the book, mainly because the young woman (21-ish) in front of us at the play was hoping that they respected the author’s vision.

They didn’t just respect it, they improved upon it. Bravo all around.

Gah this book was gross. I could not believe some of things (even supposedly “good”) characters said in this book. Racist, insanely sexist/misogynistic, homophobic, ableist… plenty of jokes at the expense of those suffering from mental health disorders… I mean I honestly am left feeling shell shocked. One of my most fantastic students recommended this to me and she generally had great taste in books! She did say the musical is better and admitted to only reading the first part of the book.
