Good overview of how to become a fiction writer. I had hoped for more about non-fiction, but I didn’t come into it knowing much about the author so it makes sense that her expertise is in fiction. Really good inspirational tidbits that I’ll definitely take away.

This book will free the story in your heart, don't keep it locked away. The world always needs more good storytellers. I especially recommend Write Smart, Write Happy, to those of us who have never believed in ourselves enough to say the words, Yes, I am a writer.

Very motivational. She tackles a lot of issues, offers advice on different ways to tackle them, and also inspires you to keep writing. Only reason it's not a five star read for me is the amount of space dedicated to social media and how much of the book leaned toward experienced and published writers with an audience.

What I found interesting with this book is that it is a book about writing, yet it isn't. It is more a lifestyle book combined with a writing book. It is full of information on writing and publishing, so here, as with most other books on writing, there isn't that much information that is new to me.
What makes the book unique is the way the information is delivered. It is very upbeat and positive, without sugar-coating the reality of a writer's life. You can't help but feel good after reading it. And even though the book is about writing, you could actually transfer most of what St. John says to other aspects of your life and improve on them.
I've read quite a few books on the craft, and I have to say "Write Smart, Write Happy" is definitely among my favourites.

An interesting reading on the process of writing and publishing a book. Even if I am not thinking of writing a book it was really interesting to see what's behind the scene and how it works.
Recommended for aspiring writers.

Reading this book was like getting slapped in the face repeatedly by a soft teddy bear. (It’s late, so my metaphors are a little odd, I apologize.) I felt like I was in a bootcamp being called out, but in a NICE way. This book did encourage me to dive back into writing, but has also terrified me of actually traditionally publishing. It contained a little too much info as well as repeated and inconsistent tips. The main tip of this book: write every day, but not every day if you can’t every day, and make time for writing while maintaining a positive outlook and OH—being an author is a tricky business not made for everyone. I enjoyed it, but it could have been trimmed down and a bit nicer to newbies writing their first book!
