It is beautifully written. The way the characters are described makes it even more tragic. You can’t help but feel for Pecola.

Such a solid read. After hearing so many great things about this book, I needed to give it a shot. While it was published in the 70’s, the story and its’ themes are so incredibly important and relevant to today. Easy 5/5

dark emotional sad

This was one of my required readings for my English class and I’ve been wanting to revisit it since then, mostly because I could not remember anything that happened

Now reading it again, this is definitely a must read

Morrison’s writing can be a bit dense and overly poetic when trying to distinguish whose POV were in but it’s not a criticism to her at all and more so just me trying to get used to her style

It’s clear why this is on the banned books list and I think it’s great at opening discussions about race, class, abuse, poverty and privilege

This was challengin to listen to at times. I knew it would be before starting and tried to fortify myself. I felt many strong emotions that disquieted me but I felt compelled to continue.

The writing is somehow beautiful and poetic despite what is being said. The version of the audiobook I listened to was narrated by Toni Morrison herself. Her voice added to the solemnity of the story.

This is the kind of book you have to come back to in order to fully absorb everything. The subject matter was often hard to endure but that's part of what makes this book so important.
