I like Dr. Gupta's style of writing in laymen's terms. Very conversational. That said, there is still a lot of science here which is skimmable without missing the main points. In essence, this is not a book that is only about Alzheimer's or dementia those these areas are covered. The advice really applies to anyone at any age.
Eat smaller portions.
Move more.
Get good sleep.
Learn something totally new (language, instrument, etc.)
Stay social.
Common sense, right?

This book has some good information for those working with healthcare professionals that are practicing conventional medicine (identifying a disease and prescribing a medicine). It starts to address using diet, exercise, social connection, stress management- lifestyle issues to keep you healthy. If you are familiar with the functional medicine (finding root cause of symptoms) there is nothing new here other than a listing of resources for patients and caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients.
Hardback
Such an important topic. Hard swings between neuroscience and practical tips.

Sanjay Gupta wants you and me to take better care of our brains. He feels so strongly about it that he wrote a book.
Gupta is a neuroscientist and medical reporter who conducted hours of research to pull together all the best information we have about how to care for our brains as we age. He’s a charismatic, nerdy nice guy which makes it easy to listen to him.
The book has a long runway meaning that it takes a while for it to get going. In the first third of the book Gupta says things like, “I’ll get to this later in the book in chapter 17” and I said in my head “can’t we just get to it now, Dr. Gupta? All the lead up feels unnecessary. Patience is not my strong suit. Too many good books and not enough time....
But in the last 2/3rds of the book, Gupta does get to the information and it’s really good. He debunks a number of myths about the brain (several of which I’ve carried around as truth in my head for years). He makes the case that healthy brains require certain kinds of (1) movement; (2) nourishment; (3) connection; (4) purpose; and (5) rest. Doing crosswords everyday for the rest of your life maybe fun if that’s your thing, but that’s not going to do it.
You may be thinking, “Well, I already know that all that helps my brain,” but I promise that you don’t. Gupta gets very specific about what works and doesn’t work and what are best practices based on the research. He also outlines a plan with specific tasks and goals that you can follow if you are so inclined.

Very well done but just a little too simplified at times and at others too much info trying to get across a simple message-- we need to enjoy life in moderation, stay active and social.
The main takeaway is to eat a plant-based, whole food diet that includes cold water fish.
