This is a challenging topic and Dr. Gupta approaches it from multiple angles. Some of his scientific explanations can get tedious, but he maps out the brain and where things happen. He describes medications and drug interactions, as well as studies. You can get some depth but go in knowing that much is still being studied and/or tested, and there are few clear conclusions.

Dr. Gupta's presentation on lifestyle changes to delay the onset of dementia is a fascinating read. He doesn't advocate for a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, he encourages readers to find what suits their preferences and tastes, particularly in the diet portion. This flexibility empowers readers to make choices that align with their lifestyle, ultimately leading to a healthier life.

Finally, he provides resources and suggests some legal steps to take when you find yourself in the role of caregiver. This is a super helpful section! It's not a light read, but it's absolutely useful and informative.

This was really good. Lots here that I already knew, but it was interesting to learn more about how the brain works.

Excellent book. Easy reading - able to understand medical information as Sanjay describes it. Simple steps to take to work toward having a better brain as one ages.

I took my time with this book and enjoyed it. Dr Gupta has a great writing style that feels conversational rather than academic, so it’s very readable for everyone.

The main points that stood out for me are the best ways to maintain brain health. He suggests these: 1. Exercise 2. Sense of purpose and learning new things. 3. Sleep and relaxation. 4. Nutrition - clean eating. 5. Social interaction.

I highly recommend this book. I love that Dr. Gupta explains the science behind the brain, makes recommendations about how to improve your brain health, and leaves room for what is still unknown in this space.

I listened to the audiobook, but I also purchased the book for my husband for his birthday. It’s so well-written. The topic can, at times, be dry, but Dr. Gupta manages to keep the content relevant and interesting for his readers. I give out very few 5 star reviews. This one earned every star!

This was a really interesting read! I was initially side-eying a bit; I thought I'd been doing pretty well on the self-assessment, with <5 risk factors. Then I looked at the answer scale, and oh ... I scored pretty high! Dang it - what the what! LOL.

Thankfully, the book provides a lot of encouragement, both on the research front and where things _could_ go with Alzheimer's and other dementias, as well as on the "things I can do now to set myself up for success" front. Very practical and applicable.

I also want to move to the village in the Netherlands Dr. Gupta talked about. That sounds delightful. :)
