stephenie meyer i’m a massive hater of urs but u ate a this one thing
I read this for the first time in high school, when it first came out, and loved it. I chewed through it in one all-nighter, and was completely engrossed by Wanda's character, the wispy body-snatchers, the dystopian world, the whole lot. And then I reread it years later, and was shocked at how weirdly misogynist it seemed. I remembered strong, vibrant women, and found myself reading mousey, love-crazed girls. Dafuq? Honestly, maybe I read too much good fiction in the meanwhile, but this dropped from A+ to 'eh' pretty quickly. I split the difference and marked it as a 3/5, but really, don't read this. There is so much good romance/sci-fi out there, with interesting female protagonists who aren't flat. Go read some of that.
because someone lent it to me, maybe i won't want to punch the author in the face this time...
halfway through. i started off liking the characters and now they are grating on my nerves. why does Meyers feel the need to babble on and on? i think her books can be cut in half and still tell the story. but even though it annoys the crap out of me i can't put it down. that is a talent!

I think that this is one of Stephenie Meyer's better books. She developed her characters very well for the most part of the book, and I found many of the characters fascinating. Wanderer at sometimes could be a dry character, but her alter-ego, Melanie, never failed me with her sarcasm. Her back story was a fascinating one, how she saved her little brother and all.
When Wanderer fell in love with Ian, I wanted to finish the book and stay up all night. That was one of my favorite parts in the entire book. I could not put it down at that point.
Her writing style improved greatly over her debut, Twilight.

Slow to get going, and I'm not quite sure about the ending (well, just what happens to Wanda, the rest is good), but the middle is excellent and engrossing. It didn't feel like a 600+ page book after I got past the first 150 pages or so.
Slow. Interesting concept. Lots of words for not a lot happening. Did hit the feels a little at the end which I didn’t expect
