An Assembly Such as This by Pamela Aidan

I picked up this book to gain insight on Mr. Darcy, my favorite Jane Austen hero, and it ended up tainting my view of him.

I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about:

-Men who think like 14-year-old girls
-Men who obsess over women who are simultaneously "delicate and infuriating."
-Antagonistic women who are flawed in the most cliche way possible.
-Best friends who are bumbling buffoons with absolutely no appeal.

Note: I would also recommend this book to men who want to learn how to adopt a stalker mentality.

Everyone else:

If you are craving Austen, just re-read your favorite Jane Austen book. You'll thank yourself later.

This is the first part in a trilogy that covers the events of pride and prejudice. I thought the rest of the series would extrapolate not that she dragged three books out of the one.

I would give this 4 1/2 stars if I could. I am such a nerd, but I really liked this book. It can't be as good as Pride and Prejudice, but it is close. I really enjoyed reading Darcy's perspective on things.

I've always loved Jane Austen, so this was fun for me to read. It's a knockoff, but it is well written. It just gives you a look at what Darcy might have been thinking and doing when Elizabeth wasn't around. It did read like a screen play to the '95 movie at times though as she described the scenes and what the characters were doing.

This book is a retelling of the first part of Pride and Prejudice from Mr. Darcy's perspective. Of course it does not live up to the original, but I loved reading it nonetheless and have the next part on hold at the library. I have been in a "reading funk" lately, not being able to find a book that I wanted to finish. This book, I am happy to say, has pulled me out of disinterest! I would recommend it to my friends who love Jane Austen, particularly Pride and Prejudice.

It takes a bit of concentration to read this book, because it is definitely in the style of Jane Austen, but it was neat to see the "other side of the story" of Fitzwilliam Darcy.

This is the first book in the series. It's a great addition to the Pride and Prejudice variations.

Didn't like it as much as the second one, but for Pride and Prejudice readers, definitely a different point of view.
