as a recovering alcoholic, i did really enjoy the depth of reading rachel’s addiction. paula absolutely nailed the emotions of an addict. i highlighted more in this book than most!

i loved the first 1/3 of the book but it dropped off a bit for me after that. i felt like the “thrill” started very early and dragged on just a little towards 2/3 of the way through.

i did feel like there were a few loose ends.
1- why didn’t tom want to sell the house? i understand he was h/u with megan but he did want it to stop with her- it was just meant to be a fling. why wouldn’t he sell that house and run?!
2- why the deep mention’s of megan’s brother’s death but no follow up? i thought id get more of a shocker through that but then the story line kind of went dead.

overall, i enjoyed the writing but the twist was not quite enough for me. i still liked the book & definitely want to read another from this author

It's really more of a 3 1/2, but I'll err on the side of "meh". I did read this book in about 4 hours, but it was short and a quick read.
What I didn't really enjoy about this book was the blatant setup of the "unreliable narrator, BUT IS SHE REALLY UNRELIABLE? What if she's not????" nonsense. I felt like her characters weren't so much revealed to us as they were presented as a series of cliched people. I liked the story itself, and the basic crafting of it, but her characters slapped us in the face with their issues rather than letting the story tell us about them.
I do recommend this as a really great beach read. It'll only take a day, and it's an enjoyable story.

this book was great.
I have heard people say that the characters are unlikeable, but what they are is human. flawed and ugly humans, like the ones that exist in real life.
I didn't piece together what was going on until I was almost finished with the book, and i was very grateful for that. I am not sure if that was oblivion on my part or a job well done on Paula Hawkin's, but when I finally realized what was going on, I was giddy with surprise. I love when i get taken off guard.
However, I'm not sure if the ending was too fast, or if i read it too fast.

Anyways, the book was excellent. I started it having no idea what it was about, and ripped through it. Highly recommend.
