The book is hard to get in. Lost of alcohol and burning throats for the most of it, but there's something about how Paula Hawkins right that you feel you're there. The mystery cooks forever, but the climax is nerve-shattering at best and makes up for all the flaws.
Not as thrilling as gone girl but readable in its own right. Was a bit of a slow start and I quite liked the slow reveal of who she was and her state of mind.

this book finally got me out of my reading slump! though it was intriguing, it felt like a mediocre read to me. it could have had something to do with getting out of my slump. the plot twist however was amazing!

gooooood golly, I remember this book being in every white woman between the age of 20 and 45’s hands in the mid-2010s. I finally got around to reading it to see what the hype was all about and somehow managed to not encounter spoilers in the past decade this has been out. The Gone Girl era, are we okay as a society that this is what was/(still is??) gripping us?!

Minor: Confinement, Rape, Sexual content, Suicidal thoughts, Stalking, Abortion, Pregnancy
The Girl on the Train is about a woman named Rachel who notices something unusual on her daily commute that changes her life as well as those lives around her. Based on the description of the book, I thought the story would only followed Rachel. Instead, the story follows the perspective of 3 women, Rachel, Megan, and Anna. I found it interesting that the story is told by days, and each chapter is a different woman’s perspective. The 3 women have different personalities, but none of them were rather likable as characters. Rachel is a lonely alcoholic, and I felt sorry for her when I learned about her past. I enjoyed reading her chapters the most, but Megan’s chapters were interesting because they were all flashbacks. I did not like Megan as a character though because she appears to have a perfect life with a loving husband, but she has secrets that made me lose respect for her. My least favorite character was Anna because based on first impressions I did not like her, so I did not care for her chapters. I only started to look forward to reading her chapters near the end of the book. By the end, I found Anna’s character more likable. I also did not expect the ending, but it was good. However, I wished the story wrapped up Anna and the minor characters better. Overall, I enjoyed reading the book even though it was a bit slow at times.
