I reread this book every so often and enjoy it every time. Some aspects haven't aged well as technology is changing but other parts, like the women kicking butt and taking names, have fared better.
Malachi Sullivan is on a mission. A valuable heirloom has been stolen from him by the unscrupulous Anita and he believes that historian and author Tia Marsh can help him figure out how to get it back. She's quiet, shy, and sort of bland-looking so he figures he can seduce her into giving him information. Unfortunately, the person who wangled the heirloom, a small statue of one of the Fates, from him is keeping an eye on him because they trash Tia's hotel room causing her to retreat. Malachi goes back to Cobh, his hometown in Ireland, to retrench with his family. They decide to split up with his brother Gideon following the trail of a descendant of the man who owned another of the Fates. He ends up in a strip club in Prague trying to get Cleo Toliver to turn over the second Fate. She just wants a trip back to New York and is willing to use Gideon to get there.
Meanwhile, Anita is working on security expert Jack Burdett, trying to get him on her side. He, being fairly canny, does some research and ends up in Cobh, meeting the Sullivan sister, Rebecca. And thus several ties that started at the sinking of the Lusitania are closed.

I loved the premise of the book. The weaving of ancient mythology with a famous historical event with contemporary time was great. I really enjoyed the hint of the paranormal too though frankly I wanted more. Did the Fates really have some kind of power and were they influencing what happened? It's never entirely clear. I also enjoyed some of the couples but I really didn't like Mak. He was a serious ass who lied to Tia and then really didn't do anything to apologize. He was bossy and judgey and ugh. Tia was amazing and deserved a much better guy. This is clearly an earlier Roberts, because she handles similar themes in future books with more finesse and better world and story building (plus less casual misogyny). Still it was a fun read.

Audio book review.

Great mix of characters and storylines. Three family members from Ireland connect with three random strangers and pair off into three adorable couples. Don't worry, the expressions of love and devotion are not nauseating. I find these characters charming and believable! And I appreciate that Nora Roberts didn't make the stripper in the group a joke or a cliché. I love the antagonist! Her anger and desperation were so compelling to read! And I love that she got what was coming to her in the end, psycho witch lady!! Would definitely recommend this book!

Was stuck on the Island for 3 days w basically nothing else to read and the phone on the fritz.

Only the second NR book I've ever read that folds a trilogy of romances into a single book, obviously due to plot constraints (I think any attempt to separate it in three would have resulted in two very unsatisfying endings). I felt that the story was well executed but that the premise was lacking... it didn't fit neatly into a "this is a world with magic" nor realism. Nonetheless the enemy was properly fleshed out and satisfyingly dispatched, something I am very sensitive to in the light of having just read four Steve Alten books where the human victims were unsatisfying and annoying.

Another one of NR books that was totally captivating encompassing 3 stories into 1. The theme was interesting especially the mythological aspect of it.Malachi and Tia imbued warmth and Jack was striking. Each and every character were interesting and had something special to offer.

I love Nora Roberts, but this one didn't thrill me. Not bad, just not my favorite of hers I've read, and not incredibly intriguing.
