Overall entertaining but disjointed. It reminded me of Outlander but just not as good. There were characters I loved and others that got killed off that should have stayed. Some characters changed their tune unrealistically. Hmmm, I probably won’t read the rest in the series.

If you're looking for a light read, look again readers! I mistakenly picked up this book to quickly read through before jumping into a different story. I was baffled why this book took so long to read until I did more research and found that Into the Wilderness is nearly 1,000 pages! E-books on e-readers can be very deceiving at times...

Beyond the surprising length of this novel, Donati wrote an amazing saga in one book. It was difficult to put down. If you're looking for a lengthy read with content you can sink your teeth into, definitely pick up this story. If you enjoyed Into the Wilderness and were saddened by closing it's cover, don't despair! There is more! The Wilderness series is six books in length. I am looking forward to the next book: Dawn on a Distant Shore.

Time Period: Late 1700's
Location: New York, USA

Reviewed from a library copy.

A long read but worth it, I love a decent epic! Especially when it has believable characters that experience familiar human emotions (even if in slightly more unbelievable situations). Will definitely look out for the next installment.

I had higher hopes for this. The story went slow for the first half and the characters did not immediately feel "real". I grew more interested in the story and wanted to see what happened for the second half. I liked the story enough to want to read the next in the series.

At age 29, unmarried and without a fortune to secure her future, Elizabeth Middleton leaves England with her brother Julian and travels to the edge of the New York frontier to join her father in the village of paradise in 1792. In the deep of winter she comes to Paradise and first encounters a man who challenges her understanding of this new world. He is Nathaniel Bonner, a white man, a hunter and trapper, tall and lean and whip cord, uncompromising in his honesty and unhampered by social conventions.

This book follows on from the film The Last of The Mohicans. Nathaniel's father is Hawkeye and Cora his mother, from the film.

This book has lots of adventure, passion and hats off to Miss Donati, this is a brilliant story. Some people have compared this series to Diana Gabaldons Outlander series and it's just as good.

I did read this book about ten years ago, but couldn't remember anything and thoroughly enjoyed it again.

Nathaniel Talkling to Elizabeth - he calls her Boots...
(I'm happy here, Boots. Sometimes when I'm coming up the trail and I see the light in the window, I can't hardly move for fear that it's all been a dream, having you here in this place with me. I'm scairt of being without you. I never was easy to scare, even as a boy, but I've learned it now" His hand went to the bulk of her belly and rested there. "All I want is to keep you safe, and to please you. So you'll stay with me. Tell me you'll stay with me")

This is a long book 872 pages, seemed to take me ages to get through, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Best of all this book and the rest of the series is available on Kindle Unlimited.
lighthearted slow-paced

The prose is ok, but I'm 5/6ths of the way through and I want to quit. I'm not attached to the characters, who are rather one dimensional and a bit unbelievable (particularly the heroine) and not particularly likeable. I love the premise and the setting - It could be a fantastic setting for an amazing adventure, but this is not that book. If you are picky about writing, skip this one.
