Poignant and heartwarming, extraordinary world building as always, and just somehow as graceful a book as you could ever read. Slow moving but completely charming.

Oh my. If I wanted to hear mundane stories about the mundane lives of mundane people I would listen to the gossip at work. I don't need a book about it.

Becky Chambers is brilliant and inspiring, as usual.

I was disappointed with this book. It is not as action packed or funny as the first one.

Have I mentioned that I love Becky Chambers's novels? Because I really, really do.

This book, even more than the others in the series, deals mostly with the mundane lives of its characters. But it is this mundanity that allows readers to explore their world and imagine a radical alternative to our contemporary world.
In the process, it's impossible - for me at least - to not start caring deeply about these characters and their lives and decisions and I know I'll be thinking about them and the Fleet for a long time.

I have really been enjoying this series of books.
This story deals with identity; a sense of belonging, understanding your own culture, and being strong enough to stand up for your beliefs, even against your own. Some characters have a great sense of themselves and their part in the greater scheme.  Others are looking for where or how they fit in.
Yet again, I'm so impressed with how authors can create a whole way of living and thinking; I love the rituals and processes surrounding death, and the respect that people have for the 'caretakers', how highly their role is valued in the community.
I don't know if these books are an easy read, or whether I simply finish them so quickly because I am so immersed in their worlds.
