This book is really hard to read and some of its contents stuck with me for days (and possibly longer.) Reading what happened to these girls is sickening, to the point where I would literally feel nauseous. BUT TAKE HEART! The ending is beautiful. Their courage and hope and resiliance is astounding. These girls deserve the World and more.

5 stars!

One of the best memoirs I’ve read in a long time. Heartbreaking, remarkable, inspirational. Didn’t want it to end (that sounds terrible!).

What an absolutely harrowing experience these three women went through. They endured a life that no one should have to, and for that they are an inspiration.

This story is mostly from Amanda’s perspective, possibly because she wrote in her journal about what was happening throughout her captivity. Michelle wasn’t mentioned often, but I assume that is because they knew she wanted to share her own story and didn’t want to take that opportunity from her.

A root of problem with this book falls flat without Michelle Knight. Not having her does not help the narration as it does not feel like a fully complete account. The other authors seem to include mentioning her as an afterthought at times, which is odd.

It is astounding to me that Berry and DeJesus were able to survive through an unbearable experience and also to make its retelling bearable enough for the reader to get through a book on it. The book focuses on the details of their imprisonment and the parallel efforts to rescue them. Heartbreaking but hopeful as these women have hopefully full and happy lives ahead of them.

Reading the story is of the Amanda Berry kidnapping broke my heart. I cannot believe everything that they went through. I cannot even begin to imagine what they went through and what they were feeling everyday. I was angry and sad for them. Those three girls are incredibly strong.

Really liked this book despite the content of it. Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus' resilience and strength is inspiring. I hope Ariel Castro is rotting.

Amanda, Michelle and Gina were all kidnapped, tortured and kept locked up for a decade. Amanda and Gina decided to open up about their horrific years spent in captivity being manipulated, chained up and continually assaulted by a monster. The reader also get to hear about what was going on with the investigation and the time after their eventual escape.

I just had to read this one after finishing Michelle’s memoir, she was invited to co-write this one but decided to go it alone. I’m not complaining, more books for us. Again this is very graphic, beware the triggers because there are a lot. But it’s also a story of hope and survival, these women are truly an inspiration. I really liked the multiple pov approach. Amanda and Ginas personal struggles during those years, being pitted against each other and manipulated. And how they kept hope alive. As well as the police investigation chapters, it’s really interesting (and infuriating) to hear about what was done to try and find the girls.

I wish they included more of their background stories, how their lives were before the kidnappings. And Michelle, it’s like she’s not even there most of the time which is unfortunate. And their stories differ a bit on some occasions.
