I really liked this book, it is YA fiction, the characters are very engaging and it's a good story line, that gallops along with lots of clever plot lines.

This is one of the most unique books I’ve ever read! Everything from its world building to races to characters and lore are completely original! I loved it!

The story is engaging and fun, though there were a couple moments near the end that, while surprising, seemed to come a bit out of the blue (though I might have missed a clue). A very small nitpick, because I absolutely fell in love with this exciting new world!

Eva is a complex girl, and though I did love her, she became a little aggressive near the end. Still, her motives were justified and I can see she has the potential to go far. The side characters completely stole my heart, however! Aketo is swoon-worthy and Baccha is an excellent morally grey character.

I’m just going to reiterate how utterly unique the magic is and how deeply I love it. Because I do. I’ve never read anything like this before and am very excited about the second book!

I usually never say this, but I really wish that this was just a little bit longer. The magic system was so well developed and I just kept wanting to know more about how it worked.

I read this via audiobook while doing most of my chores. So, that might have been a reason for why I zoned out sometimes, but I also found that whenever we were on the cusp of something absolutely amazing, the dynamics of the scene takes a full 360 and the momentum is lost.

I might have to do a reread of this in physical format, but I'm definitely looking forward to the second book.

I enjoyed this book. Although nothing ground breaking in premises. I feel like it gave off Five Dark Crown vibes in premises. It was a lush read. I enjoyed the magic system and lore and look forward to the next instalment.

overall it was a good book, but there were some things i wish were more in depth i guess?
i wish we saw more background for multiple characters such as Isadore, the Queen, the King, and honestly the rest of the cast because i didnt care for much of them
i also wouldve liked less flashbacks of the past-like many others had said it was a lot of telling rather than showing
i did like the magic and tattoo system, i wish we expanded on it more though
i dont think I would read the sequel but this was still a decent read
