Mini-Review:

There's a big werewolf pack meeting in town, but bodies are piling up with all signs pointing to werewolves. Jade gets thrown into situation and she must use her magic to defend herself & figure out what is going on.

Action kicks up a notch in this book. More questions are added to the Why pile and there are a handful of answers that lead to more questions.

I still like the side characters in the story, but I don't like Jade. She's rather incompetent and I have a hard time believing that she was able to keep herself safe from Samir for years. The GameLit vibe is still cool. However, the series is full of plot holes and the holes are getting bigger with each book I read.

I may be in the wrong mood for these stories. Maybe I'll come back and try the rest some day.

I loved this episode, there are so many sides to Jade and it shows how hard she needs approval and love at the same time. It is a very different look at shifters and how their magic works and I love the way it is forcing her to grow. I found her annoyingly mopey at time’s but it was interesting. I can’t wait to see how this grows.

My general thoughts about the first 3 books in this series:

The three books in the bundle I got were Justice Calling, Murder of Crows, and Pack of Lies. They're perfectly fine stories, and I enjoyed reading them. There isn't really a system of magic as much as different classes of being having different powers. There's some extra interest and a little moral ambiguity with the main character (Jade) being what she is. The way she gains extra powers is a little unsettling, and may lead to further complications down the line.

The writing is competent and readable. I was drawn along through all the stories quickly. There's not too much romance, which is fine with me, though there is some.

Not sure I'm invested enough in what's going on to continue the series, but if you need a fast read that has some interesting world-building choices, these books are fine.

Another fun entry in the series; it's been a lot of fun seeing how it grows in scope. On to book four!

another intriguing continuation of our lady in training. A wonderful series for those who enjoy a fantasy, and the gaming twists.

3.5 stars. they are getting better, but I'm not sure if I'm invested enough to continue past this one.

I know the author says she likes to get "right to the action" - but her stories always leave me feeling like something is missing. She is a writer with talent, and something about this series keeps me coming back... but it's very frustrating because I know these books could be SO much more. They need to be fleshed out. If you're looking for a quick enjoyable read though, these books do the trick.

I'm liking this whole series. Each book isnt very long so they are quicker reads and great for an afternoon when you want to dive into a story.

It's not very complicated, but it is improving.
