DID NOT FINISH: 31%

I wanted to love this as the first book was fantastic. Unfortunately, I already knew where this was going by the end of the first book and it pissed me off and (sadly) I was correct and I am NOT here for it. Sad girl vibes.

Oh, this just got deliciouslllly more complicated. She took it up 10 NOTCHES from book 1. WHEWWWW. The last 100 pages… holy shit. Book 3 is going to EATTTTTT. I know it.

TESSA YOU LITTLE VENGEFUL BADDIE!!!!! Tessa at the end of this book is SOOOO Which Witch by Florence + The Machine coded. She said it’s MYYY time to take. As she should

Wowww!! We made a 180 in book two and, dare I say, it’s WAYYY better than book 1!?!? I was absolutely devouring the multiple povs, the deeper character development, the bites world history, and the why choose edging.. just wow. We really stepped it up from book one.
And the PLOT. JUST. THICKENS. I mean, WHAT was that ending!?!?? WHAT IS HAPPENING?? In true Romantasy fashion, everything we thought we knew was blown to absolute bits within the last 20% of the book.
Will be flying through book 3 and crying until book 4 is released.

This is book fuelled by anger. Every character, Theon, Tessa, Axel, Luka, carries their own bitterness, frustration, and desperation, and it bleeds into every page. This book is intense, politically charged, and full of high-stakes reveals that hit all at once rather than unfolding gradually.

The Selection, the politics, and the intricate world-building remain highlights of the series. However, I missed the darker dynamics of the first book, the push and pull between Theon and Tessa that made their connection so unique. Theon prioritizing her in subtle ways, or moments where her submission was tested, felt less present here, which took away some of the tension I loved in the first book.

That being said, I couldn't put this book down. The pacing, the reveals, and Axel's perspective kept me hooked. His struggle is heartbreaking and adds so much depth to the story. This sequel is chaotic, consuming, and gripping, and I'm so ready for the next book.

This book felt like it was following more of a story line than the first but it also feels very jumbled. Lots of stuff happening everywhere and info missing then being thrown in when convenient. The overall plot seems very interesting though so I shall continue to read.

I have to be honest, I hated this book which sucks because the world and the story is so interesting but the characters I just can’t deal with.
Theon is an ass but honestly he’s being set up for such a brilliant redemption arc and it’s currently the only thing making me consider continuing this series. Tessa could be so so awesome but she’s just coming across as whiney and can’t control her temper (which I understand the premise behind but still she’s an adult…), she has done nothing but going round in circles and it’s infuriating. It’s sad because I liked Tessa in the first book.
Another thing this seems to be leaning in a MFM direction and I wish I knew that before I started because personally not for me.

I was dying to love this book but it felt like I was pulling teeth the entire time. I’ll be honest and say I didn’t get interested until the last 10% and even then I don’t like the characters enough to feel invested.
Still deciding on whether I’ll continue this series

I want to shake some of these… wait no all of these characters some common sense and ability to talk.

this series has my heart but it’s raising my blood pressure
