This is a great read! Allomancy is such an interesting concept the way Sanderson has developed it. I just wish I had started with book one!

Oh the brilliance that is Brandon Sanderson. His writing is vivid, immediately drawing in the reader, and this book is no exception!

My favorite part about Sanderson's book, especially this one, is his ability to speak to his readers. Throughout the book, I noted certain quotes that struck me as important.

"Do not deride someone's faith because you do not share it, Lord Cladent." (619) In a world where everyone is screaming for tolerance, yet have a limited way of actually displaying that "tolerance," I found this quote particularly telling. We are humans, and we will never all agree on everything - that's the beauty of having the ability to choose! However, to have peace, we must be respectful of everyone's individual beliefs, even if we do not agree.

"...but suddenly, all of his religious knowledge seemed hollow. What was the use in giving her a burial? What was the value in speaking the prayers of a long-dead god? What good was he? What was the point...If so many people believed in so many different things, how could any one of them-or, even, anything at all-actually be true?" (703) These are questions I think many people face in their lives. In life, there are always moments, events, and trials that may shake a person's faith. It's okay to question, it's okay to wonder, it's okay to search for truth and understanding. It's natural to want to know what is right and to search for it.

Sanderson also speaks to his readers through his characters. The characters in this trilogy are so realistic, with their individual and distinct voices, their strengths, weaknesses, personalities, inner thoughts, and more!

While I love all the characters, TenSoon is one of my favorites. Though all the characters learn and grow throughout the story, I felt that the kandra changes the most. His dealings with humans over the centuries have left him feeling that they are all the same - greedy, untrustworthy, and selfish. However, over time, his interactions with Vin change that perception. He realizes that humans, though flawed, aren't all bad. In the end, he is willing to break his contract and sacrifice the 'secret' to save her. He understands that even with her weaknesses and insecurities, she is a good person who is worth saving.

Isn't that a question we have all asked ourselves? With all the mistakes I have made, with all the setbacks I have created for myself, am I actually a good person? With his characters, especially TenSoon, Sanderson depicts the multi-faceted nature of human beings, and is able to help the reader understand and accept their own insecurities, while still pushing the reader to be the best they can be. To me, the ability to talk and teach his readers is an incredible strength of a writer.

I loved this book and am so excited to read the next one (again)!

I was going to just give it a 4 because though I still found it good, the pacing was really slower, and there was so much angsty feeling for Vin that I found it annoying. Nevertheless, when the climax of the book came... Wow. And the battles. Wow. And how everything started to make sense. Wow. Twists and mindblowing stuff happened in the end that made the somewhat slow pace totally worth it. Wow. I enjoyed reading about political maneuverings and battle tactics much more than I thought I would. I know a lot of people don't like how it sets the pace down but I personally like all the scheming so there.

I really loved how the characters were played out. Sure, characterization is not the author's strong point, but I hated some with a passion (ahem, Straff Venture and Zane) and loved some better than the rest (hi, kandra and Sazed!) and that was enough for me. Also, the magic systems (Allomancy and Feruchemy) are really impressive, and never cease to amaze me. Until now, I am still in awe of Vin and her powers, even though there were several instances in the book where I didn't like her very much. There's always something new to find out about this world, and it keeps me eager to learn more. For that, I have to commend [a:Brandon Sanderson|38550|Brandon Sanderson|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1201547425p2/38550.jpg] for his crazy mindbending abilities.

I just didn't like the drama and some stuff that were quite cliche (we could all do without the love triangle), but it wasn't enough to dampen my enjoyment.

Like I said, this was supposed to be just a 4 but I'm adding an extra half star because I realized that I genuinely enjoyed it in the end. You know, I didn't even plan to marathon this trilogy but it seems like I'm going to have to read the third and final book, [b:The Hero of Ages|2767793|The Hero of Ages (Mistborn, #3)|Brandon Sanderson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1312051231s/2767793.jpg|2793516], just to have some peace of mind. I'm really glad I decided not to wait to read this!

PS

Don't get me started on my feelings while reading this book. I got depressed for almost the whole day when I read about the battles and the implications of some events, and if you know me, you would know that means a lot. My goodness.
