This was super cute, and the art style was lovely. Unfortunately I was hoping for more backstory and lore from the SU universe rather than the fluffy episodic stories we got in this volume. If cute fluffy slice of life with Steven and the Gems, particularly season 1 timeline stories, this is the volume for you.

I was a bit disappointed in this one, though I'm not sure what I wanted out of it, exactly. I'm obsessed with the show, but the show's pacing is much better, interlaced with plot, nuance, and emotionality. This has a series of cute, slice-of-Steven-Universe-life stories, but doesn't illuminate much about the characters. It more plays off what we already know about them. Also, without the context of the show, I would be completely lost. It's probably meant as a companion to fans who are already tuned in to the show, but that does worry me. I don't want people who stumble across the comic first to be turned off because it was confusing!

For pros, all of the art in this volume is amazing, and it's beautifully printed. I don't regret owning it, but I'm not sure what it adds to the, er, universe of Steven Universe. I will probably check out the next volume to see what I think.

Darn cute. :)

Well, one thing I guess - the panel and text bubble style took some getting used to, and was surprisingly difficult to read at first. There would be a confusing amount of white space because the gutters would be continuous with the text blocks. But I stopped noticing it after a while, so maybe it's no big deal.

I didn't get it. Also would never have picked it up if it wasn't for my reading game. Don't recommend.

A fun read for fans of the show. I feel like it would be confusing out of context. Although, I've only seen a few episodes and I was able to follow the storyline fine. I loved looking at the artwork and alternative covers mixed in between the stories. Would definitely read another one someday but I'm not clamoring for the next volume.

Yeeesh, so this was definitely written during the Season 1 stuff, not that great in other words, as Season 1's filler was particularly unbearable at times.
Furthering lack of enthusiasm for this book was the lack of best Gem Peridot...cuz she doesn't exist yet in the show, so why would she be in the spinoff comic book?

This is a collection of short comics (some as short as a page) that all involve the SU characters, but don't share any plot elements. I really didn't like the main art (it varies sometimes from story to story) which I think is Jeremy Sorese*. The shorts done in black and white were good, but the bulk of the stories were in that art that I'm just not into. It also lacks the rich characters and storylines that I like about the show, which is understandable considering they have, at most, 8 pages to tell a story and it has to appeal to people who haven't watched the show. However, I didn't like the disjointed energy and silly plots (if there was one at all). It might be good for younger fans, I guess.

(*The characters are over exaggerated and they change so much from panel to panel that I have to expend extra visual energy to parse out what is character and what is background. Add in strangely placed speech bubbles and wiggly backgrounds and it gave me a headache)
