Not a strong connection to Dream or the other members of his family. I enjoyed the similarities to The Canterbury Tales. Some stories were better than others.
I understand why many people list this as their least favorite part of the Sandman series. Apart from the ending, it does very little to progress Morpheus's story. Instead we have what looks like a bit of a prototype for Vertigo's House Of Mystery anthology series.
A reality storm strands people from many different worlds in an inn where they pass the time telling stories. The stories sometimes involve Morpheus, sometimes don't. But each issue is a separate, well-written story with a different artist providing the visuals. All the stories are excellent. It just removes the urgency from the main Sandman story, probably because the artist needed a lot of time to work on the upcoming Kindly Ones storyline.
This is still great. Without the rest of the Sandman books surrounding it, this is a five star book. It's just the least five star book in a series that was consistently a five star book for me.
I recommend it for people who enjoy Neil Gaiman's short stories, and those who like learning about fictional cultures.

This was another volume in the series that was basically just a collection of short stories. It was interestingly done though. All the storytellers were gathered together from different times and worlds waiting out a storm. I might have enjoyed it more if it were somewhere else in the series, but as a follow up to Vol.7 it was a bit of a disappointment. I read that Gaiman wanted to showcase the artwork of several artists in this volume, and in that he definitely succeeded! Like any collections of short stories they are hit or miss. But I must say I really enjoyed all but one or two of the stories. My favorite issue in this volume was "Cerements". About an apprentice mortician of sorts and a sky burial. It was stories inside a story inside a story and it was done so well. The ending was great and tied the this volume to the rest of the series. I still can't help but feel that this was more of a filler volume though.
Για τη reality storm, για την κηδεία και για το βλέμμα της Death στο τέλος. Φοβάμαι λίγο για το τι θα ακολουθήσει.
-What's a reality storm? I mean, it does sound like something from Star Trek or something.
-Well, sometimes big things happen, and they echo. Those echoes crash across worlds. They are the ripples in the fabric of things. Often they manifest as storms. Reality is a fragile thing, after all.
I think I fell in love with her, a little bit.
Isn't that dumb?
But it was like I knew her.
Like she was my oldest, dearest friend.
The kind of person you can tell anything to, no matter how bad, and they'll still love you, because they know you.
I wanted to go with her. I wanted her to notice me.
And then she stopped walking.
Under the moon, she stopped. And looked at us.
She looked at me.
Maybe she was trying to tell me something; I don't know.
She probably didn't even know I was there.
But I'll always love her. All my life.

liked the first and the third story the best. these ones that don't really have a singular throughline struggle to keep my attention unfortunately.
