An inspiring book about the importance of showing up for our children to make them feel safe, seen, soothed, and therefore secure. I enjoyed listening to both Dr. Siegel (MD) and Dr. Bryson (Ph.D) share their science-backed perspectives and suggestions of how to show up for our children. This book is informative while still being approachable. I would recommend to any child caregiver.

Nothing earth-shattering here as far as parenting books go, but I think at least some of the value in reading parenting books is to be reminded of things you need reminders of without having to re-read the exact same books you've already read before. I also have to remind myself that most parents don't know about attachment theory and the results and implications of the "Strange Situation" experiments, so for the vast majority of parents there is a lot of new information to be found here to help make sense of the "why" behind good parenting.

I think this book has great information and there’s definitely some take aways to think about and apply with my own parenting.

The reason I rated this book only three stars is that I found it boring. It felt like a chore to read it unfortunately and I kind of had to force myself to finish it. Glad to have the information though.

⭐️ 4.5, rounded down

This is a solid parenting book, for sure one of the better ones I’ve read. However, if you’ve already read other parenting books by Dan Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson, then you may not glean much new information from this book. It felt like a synopsis of their other books to me so at times it dragged. On the other hand, if you’ve never read any parenting books, this one would be a great place to start.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this. I cried. I laughed. I related. Being a parent isn't about being perfect, and I loved that they stressed this point. We are all humans and we are all going to make mistakes. Emphasis is placed on the repair after those mistakes and that is so important. I have been implementing that idea in my own parenting for a couple years now - not worrying so much about being perfect, but how I handle it when I make mistakes. It has made a huge difference and I feel that it has brought my son and I even closer, and has fostered a healthier environment for us.
The only issue I had is with one of the narrators of this audiobook. He was so dry and there was no inflection, that it was at times distracting. Didn't detract from anything I learned, but just a minor annoyance throughout.

good, but I felt like it was just a long over-explanation of what I've read in shorter form in other books, and I didn't really need "more"
