Slow burn novel about the end of the end of the world. The main characters keep having deja vu feelings while they prepare for the official date and time of the end. Not depressing- instead it’s heartwarming and optimistic. I liked this one!

This book was such a delight to read about family, community, love, and the importance of human connection. Despite its vaguely sci-fi plot, this book is, at its heart, about human beings. I've consumed a lot of media about the end of the world, but nothing quite like this. This book was incredibly sweet and tender, even despite it being about the end of the world, and I'll be thinking about it for a long time after I've put it down. Gorgeous writing, stunning characters, and so so so unique.
Also, against all odds, my last book of 2024 was a banger. Talk about a miracle.

Absolutely shocked (in the best way) by this book and how it ended. The character development was fantastic and the mix of personalities was perfect. The way the book ended makes me want to reread so that I can pick up on all the details I missed the first time. Despite this book having such a dark and sad premise, it was still such a beautiful and thought provoking story!

This story of the end of the world struck me as weirdly quiet and narrowly focused. Perhaps it’s a reflection of German and Scandinavian-Canadian cultures to be so…low affect about a disaster? There are continuity slippages that supposedly mean something profound, but I didn’t find it convincing.
