I really loved this!! The world was so refreshingly different and I really enjoyed the politics and the history between the different groups. Keera is such a complex character, and I really enjoyed seeing a badass be a badass. The enemies to lovers was enemies to lovering, but at a respectable pace that was realistic in my opinion. I can see this as a great start and intro to a series, and I am really excited to keep reading it. The reason I am docking it 0.5 points is for two reasons- one I found a typo in the book (RIP), and two, although Keera is a very complex character, I found her willingness to jump ship to overthrow the king after 60 odd years unrealistic. The author tries to explain this away with a multitude of detail about Keera and her past, but I still found it a bit hard to believe that she goes from cold hearted killer that is the kings puppet to not .
Graphic: Alcoholism, Death, Self harm, Violence
This book felt like it took every loved trope, plot line, characteristic, etc from other fantasy books and put it all into one. It was like reading all my favorite fantasy’s as one mixed book….yet i was still bored. It just wasn’t original.
Keeras personality felt forced and unnatural. Her random winks and smirks trying to portray her as a badass had me like ???? I could see how the author wanted us to view her, but it just was not matching.
Riven honestly was just there.
Prince Killian was the most interesting character and is sadly only in a couple of chapters
I can 100% see how this was apparently a huge hit on tiktok and was tiktok inspired. I think I’ll continue on just to see if the story expands and starts to become its own.

This book is a huge mish mash of a bunch of popular tropes and fantasy elements, I can see why so many might love it. In my case, I'm afraid neither the characters nor the plot really got me engaged. I really wanted to love it but felt like I've read this story so often in bits and pieces of other books.
I'm also not sure how I feel about a main character struggling with alcoholism. While, I understand why the character might lose herself in the drink so to speak, I also feel like it would make her success in her missions nose dive as well. So I found the fact she was still successful despite stumbling about a bit unrealistic.
Content warnings to consider: alcoholism, sexism, violence and other usual warnings seen in fantasy.

Predictability aside, I really love the diversity of all these characters! Plus, any female main character that reminds me of Celaena is a win in my book :)
