LOVED this. (Which is surprising because Banks' contemporary romances are not enjoyable to me)

Keeley is so so wonderful. She pushes back whenever someone tries to force her to do something against her will. She's incredibly independent, but also so in need of friends and people to love/comfort her. That juxtaposition is one of my favorite things about her. And to see how Alaric just goes all doe eyed for her...it's just wonderful!

not a fan of the usage of maidenhead or really any of the language surrounding the sex scenes (spurting, sipping???). i also don't really like ye olden day hookups. too much at risk for the women so it doesn't really read as romantic, more so lazy on the man's part.

anyway didn't love this. just wanted to give maya banks' historical a try. not my thing, no biggie!

Healing Their Wounds

I read this several years ago. It was nice to revisit Alaric and Keeley with their quick attraction and a forbidden love. They are electric, even in the dark ages. I love them together! I also love that we get to see how Ewan and Mairin are getting on.

They are in quite the predicament as Alaric is loosely betrothed at the start of their journey. I do appreciate that they make a conscious decision to make the most of the little time afforded to them. Then, they plan to separate once he's married to Rionna. It really is bittersweet.

Nay, I'll not set her aside.
-- Alaric McCabe

The marriage to Rionna is for the purposes of sealing an alliance for his clan. Neither is invested beyond the benefits it provides. Both deserve better.

Wonderful continuation of the McCabe trilogy by Maya Banks. Alaric is ready to do his duty to his family and marry the neighboring Laird's daughter for the good of the clan. On his way to solidify his betrothal, he's attacked and grossly wounded. While escaping for his life he lands on the doorstep of Keeley, a woman banished from her clan but with the knowledge to heal. The chemistry between these two is amazing. They can't help themselves when feelings begin to develop between them, but Alaric must think of his duty to his clan by upholding his betrothal. The trials these two must go through are heart wrenching and wonderfully written. Loved this story!

I loved this book! I liked the the first one a lot but I liked this one even more. I laughed, I cried, i stayed up till 2 in the morning to finish it. So amazing, everything I love in a Historical Romance in one book...Perfect

4.5 stars

This was leaps and bounds a better book than the first one. The characters were likeable and much more enjoyable. Th story line was engaging and had me hooked all the way to the end.

The author also stepped up the sex scenes. They were so much better in this book! I still rolled my eyes a little with the descriptions, such as when she compares her vagina to rose bud petals. Cliche.

Otherwise, an enjoyable read.

First off, I am not one to typically write reviews for books. Instead, I am usually content with rating them and moving on to the next book. However, Maya Banks’ McCabe Trilogy deserves so much more. For as long as I have been reading, I have found only a couple handfuls of books/authors/series that I can say I truly love. More often than not, the majority of those that fall in that category, I have stumbled onto on my own. As is the case with the McCabe Trilogy. According to goodreads, none of my friends have read or reviewed these books. Something I plan on rectifying as soon as possible.

The McCabe Trilogy is my first step into the Highlander world. And even though I gave the first book in this series three stars, I am inclined to go and change it to four after reading the entire series. And the only reason I am hesitant to give it five is because as the books progressed, I fell more in love with all of the brothers whereas in the first book I wasn’t as enthralled or enraptured by Alaric or Caelen (the brothers of the last two books).

This series is not one filled with supernatural/paranormal beings, nor one filled with magic or mythology. They are filled with gruff, hard, stoic warriors and their clans. And while the books are named for the McCabe brothers, it is the women they find themselves married to that make this series stand out. Each woman and brother have their own strengths. At times they do tend to be cut from the same cloths, (the women in their ways of not being spineless damsels in distress, and the men with their ‘I am the man, you will do as I say’ attitudes) it is their attitudes, backbones, love, and sacrifices for their significant others that made these books stand out among others.

The series builds the storyline through each book. With the villain(s) climatic ending doesn’t become resolved until the final book. Which by then, the author had my anger and hatred built up to match that of the McCabe brothers and their wives. Not to mention that each book held twists and angst that had me gasping in outrage or shock, or had me crying so hard that I couldn’t see the words on the pages to keep reading.

I would highly recommend these books to all of my friends and fellow readers… that is if they can get to them before I start reading them again!
