That was a good book. :) Though I haven't read the first book, I tried (but didn't like it). I really liked this one, it was sometimes confusing but most of the time I knew what was going on.

And wow at that steamy scene, didn't expect that there. But it fitted, so I don't mind.

I tremendously loved [b:Flatt-Out Matt]. It was really nice to finally be inside Matt's head, hear and feel his thoughts, and be able to know more of him.

I think it was great that [a:Jessica Park|22159|Jessica Park|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1354550017p2/22159.jpg] also brought us to know the real Finn – even though it was just a slight glimpse of him. The prequel with Finn's part and Matt's old life was just very touching. I empathized with him even more.

The ending – if not perfect – at least, it felt real. I wanted to know more of what will happen between Julie and Matt's relationship more than just knowing that they gave theirselves to each other. But then, being the horny teenager that I am (Yes, I admit. You admit it too.), the ending was tolerable. Love is more than just sex, is what I want to point out. But this is not my work, this is Jessica Park's – the woman whose work is now one of my favorite contemporary books ever!

Go forth and read Flat-Out Love now. You must not miss it for the world.

This novella recounts some chapters of Flat-Out Love from Matt's POV, which I don't think was necessary but was interesting and well-crafted. Then it finishes with some bonus scenes, which felt great after reading and enjoying the book. I do recommend it for those last chapters.

I loved Matt. He was inlove with Julie, yes, but always prioritized his sister more. I really admired that about him. The way he spoke to Julie the night they fought was very unacceptable though, not to mention hypocritial. Another thing that ticked me off about him was when he posed as his brother online. Yup I hated him for that one. However, he did love Julie and he was so adorable in this one. The way he was around her, they way he would look at her with love even if she was oblivious to it. Also he would take care of her and make her happy even if the credit all went to his brother, Finn. He was very selfless and adorable. My chest cant help but ache whenever he realizes Julie could never be into him the way he loved her.

I loved Flat-out Love because it focused on rebuilding yourself after a devastating loss, and also about family. There was romance but it wasnt the main thing in the book. I also liked that it wasnt cheesy when the romance finally came around. (However, I didnt understand the appeal the skydiving conversation they had. That was very weird to me.) In this book however, romance was given a bit more emphasis. And it showed with that ending scene. But I was happy for Matt. Something good was finally happening to him after everything hes been through and everything hes had to deal with.

I love Matt so much and getting a few chapters from his POV was everything I hoped it would be! Celeste has some great moments in this, too. Can't wait to continue on with her story.

OMG! I was SOOOOOOOOO excited for more! I loved Flat Out Love, it is one of the most quirky, unique stories I have read to date, and still stands out in my mind after a year and a half. So when I heard there is a companion novel, Flat Out Matt, I couldn't wait!

Flat Out Matt by Jessica Park does NOT stand alone. You must read Flat Out Love first. I read Flat Out Love back in August 2011, and when I started Flat Out Matt, I realized it was time for a re-read.

I have to tell you, I loved Flat Out Love just as much the second time around! Flat Out Love is YA. Flat Out Matt...not so much. Flat Out Matt adds 2 prequel chapters to the story that I loved--we get to know Finn...before. Then 7 chapters are re-told from Matt's POV. They skip, so this is not a story you can sit and read as its own story, as much as something you want to read right after Flat Out Love. But it includes some of my favorite scenes: the Christmas Tree, The Polar Plunge, Skydiving, and more, this time from Matt's POV. Then it ends with a nice steamy scene from Julie's POV.

This is a really hard review to write, because the book does not stand alone, and almost every quote I pulled will offer a spoiler to Flat Out Love if you haven't read it. Celeste is an even bigger part of this book, and we really appreciate how hard it has been for Matt to take care of his highly dysfunctional family.

The chapters in Flat Out Matt skip, but each chapter begins with the fun and quirky facebook status updates from Matt, Finn and Julie, even from Celeste.

Julie Seagle: I bet the very first piñata was surprised. "Oh, hey a party! Cool! What's the occa--HEY, WHAT THE HELL, KID?"

Celeste Watkins: has no contractual obligation to use contractions. So maybe she will use them, and maybe she will not...So maybe she'll use them, and maybe she won't.

Can I tell you, I just LOVE Matty? Is it wrong to love this guy? Girls will look at nerds differently after reading this book. Lets put it this way, after reading the last chapter.... Matt seems to have studied girls as much as everything else! It was a pretty hot scene!

The emotions are all here in Flat Out Matt, maybe even more so. Seeing the struggles of this family from Matt's point of view was heart wrenching and endearing. You can't help but fall in love with them even more after reading this book. And seeing the scenes with Matt and Finn together at the beginning make this story even more bittersweet.

"Fall in love with me, Julie, as I fell in love with you, he willed her. Fall in love, fall in love, fall in love."

Flat out Matt was just as smart, quirky unique and endearing as it's predecessor. If you haven't read Flat Out Love, you must. It is completely different than the books I usually recommend, but I think you'll love it just the same. And if you have read Flat out Love, you MUST read Flat Out Matt! It made my 5++++ stars for Flat Out Love turn to 5+++++++++++++ stars!

Rating: (Disclaimer: can not really be rated alone) 5+++ Stars, 3.5 for heat **Note: Flat Out Love is only 1/2 star for Heat.

I wanted so much more out of this. Marty's pov of Julie running to him being #1. But I loved the ending!

Isn't Jessica Park such a giver? Us dirty readers didn't get want we were hoping for in Flat-Out Love, so she writes us a novella. SO. FLIPPING. AWESOME.

This is basically a retelling of certain chapters of Flat-Out Love in Matt's point-of-view. And my response to that -

(Am I right?)

I recommend reading this immediately after the first book. It gives us so much more insight to the Watkins side of things and ends the story fully.

4 stars!

Flat-Out Matt is the companion novel to the best book ever, Flat-Out Love. It’s not a linear retelling of the story; it’s a few prequel chapters and a few of the chapters from Flat-Out Love, all told from Matt’s point of view. And though we are already familiar with the duplicate chapters, nothing feels repetitive because Matt sees things from a very different perspective than Julie.

Most of the characters from Flat-Out Love are back, and we even get to meet the elusive Finn. That part was sad, knowing what was coming, but it was nice to see the brother everyone was lost without. We learn more about Matt’s parents and their part in the Flat Finn fiasco, and we learn that Celeste was actually a pretty average kid before the events in Flat-Out Love. But most of all, we see the journey Matt took from being the brother in the shadows to the one who has to keep the family together, and all that cost him.

The writing was perfect, and you’d never know the books were written almost 2 years apart. It was just like stepping right back into that world. The same snarky dialogue was there and I still loved it. Unlike the first book, though, this one has sexy scenes. This was definitely not a book for the younger set. But don’t worry, the sex doesn’t replace the romance. There’s even more of that. *Swoon*.

I didn’t think it was possible, but I love Matt even more now than I did in the first book. I need a Matt in my life. Seriously. It’s been almost 2 months since I last marked a book as swoon-worthy and even longer since I declared a book a must read, but Flat-Out Matt is both. Read Flat-Out Love, then jump right into this one. You’ll thank me, I promise.

The sum up: The perfect companion novel.
