Read this because it was recommended in a podcast (shout to DTFae!) and while I do appreciate the early-on shmexy scenes, the dialogue was almost too cringe to bear. It was almost as if the author used the dialogue to narrate the story when normal narration would do just fine. Also, fairly predictable, but no complaints in that regard. I will definitely read the next book in this series!

It's so poorly written and the characters kinda pissed me off. And I belatedly read some reviews and apparently there's gonna be a love triangle? No thanks.

This was a really fun read.  I mean withing the first 12 hours of our FMC's narrative we're having a 30 day sex fest with a god. So clearly it hits on the spice.  But even outside of that it was really fun.

The characters are absolutely loveable, even the grumpy scary ones.  The plot doesn't have any gaping holes and keeps your interest.  The dialog is fun and relatable.  The world building isn't over the top but you still get a good solid sense of place

And the cliff hanger got its hooks in me so it's on to the next book.

I have to say this was the best book I could have picked up to start the new year! I loved how much I could relate to the character, her best friend and their divine love for books. I'd die for a library like Dragerfield - including the cheeky night fae parties!

I've never dived directly into something going ' Hey this is exactly what I would do ' SO HARD. I loved it. Cannot wait for the second book!

Decent book, want to more on the story line than the sex part. Will continue the next book.

3.5 stars

This was.. definitely a book!!

The first 40-50% was very tropey and kind of boring, but interesting enough to keep me reading. Around 60-70% it got much more fast-paced and I became more invested.
The language in general was a little too modern for me, with a lot of "besties," "dudes," and "bros."
I understand contextually it made sense since she was human and grew up in the modern world, but it was still off-putting.

The characters were very cliche and the story was predictable but enjoyable. I had a lot of fun reading it and connecting the dots (even if they were kind of obvious.)

The FMC, Morgan, was a bookworm which obviously made her very relatable. It was amusing watching her interact with a fantasy world as someone who had spent most of her life with her nose in a fictional fantasy world. She would point out tropes as they happened and it was pretty funny. I liked that though she was kind of shy and she was a fish out of water, she would always reach a point where she said, "I have to do this for myself," or "I cannot allow myself to be treated this way."
She often stood up for herself which was good because I cannot standdd pathetic/meek FMCs.

Drager, the MMC, was very.. interesting. His character seemed very cut and paste. What was going to happen felt very obvious from the beginning. But I really can't go more into that without spoiling it lol.

Overall this book was good, but forgettable. Fun in the moment but I probably won't think of it now that I've finished it.

Tropes if you're interested:
- fated mates
- touch her and die
- human x powerful fae
- bookworm fmc
- dragon shifter

I think I've read only a few books by Jaymin Eve before. I don't really know why. She's a big name in the reverse harem world and her books get recommended a lot. However, I don't think people ever recommended her books when I asked for new reads. This book found me all on its own though. I saw some character art and it was love at first sight with this library girl and her dragon. Luckily my paperback copy arrived a lot sooner than I had dared to hope!

I absolutely loved the beginning of the book. I loved the library, I loved the two girls working there and being best friends. I loved the vibe of two women maybe not having everything, but still being happy with the things they do have. I also liked a missing book being the catalyst of our heroine discovering that the library is not just an ordinary library and that there is a whole other world out there with dragons, Fae and other magical creatures.

However, I also feel like the elements of this story didn't get the attention they deserved. It feels like the romantic interest(s) of this book are still vague characters we barely got to know on a deeper level. It feels like the world is one big chaos where everything is possible, but where we never really get the chance to just wander around and explore. It also feels like the plot makes an appearance once in a while only to disappear again for a some time.

It somehow feels like this book tries to combine too much. Fated mates, reverse harem, Fae politics, academy, portal fantasy and so on. And although I especially quite liked our heroine attending this school, especially because it helped us to understand the world better, I think this series could have easily been a few books longer and then all the individual elements of the story had gotten way more time to shine. And maybe then I would have also fallen in love with the guys.

But who knows, it happened more often that the second book in a duology is brilliant while the first book is not. I'm entertained enough to at least give the sequel a try!
