I hadn't read this in a long, long time. After spending 15 minutes sobbing my eyes out, I remember why. Growing up I loved this movie (I still do) even though it hurts every. Single. Time. It's only compounded now by the fact that less than two years ago I had to have my own big yeller dog put down.

Screw you, Fred Gipson. I didn't need that soul you ripped out or anything.

My rating: 5 stars. One of my favorite books as a kid. Hilarious yet heart-wrenching af. Emotional roller-coaster.

This book was so sweet! A perfect example of love between a boy and his dog. Touching and simply awesome! Loved it!

This book is a reread for me. My original copy of the book is lost somewhere, so I borrowed this one from the library. Honestly this is such a sad book, but it’s worth the pain. Yeller was such a good and unique job. I wish the ending was different, but it’s a growing moment for Travis. I feel like chapter 15 is what sticks with you when you think of this book, so I forgot a lot of what happens in this book. It almost felt like I was reading it for the first time, which was nice. I honestly don’t even remember Lisbeth or how awesome Mama was. I feel like as a kid you didn't really appreciate Mama, but now that I’m older I can say she almost became this book's MVP, but no one can beat Yeller. I plan on reading this book to my children someday, so I can make them cry as well, because I’m a loving mother that way.

MVP: Old Yeller

Still such a good book. I'm going to recommend it to several of my Grade 5 boys who've read Rascal and Tom Sawyer.

Had higher expectations. Wasn’t that bad, could’ve been better:

One of the best books I’ve ever hated. The kids fell in love with Old Yeller and I bawled reading the end to them.
