I've read the Smitten Kitchen blog for years, and I love that all the recipes are made for home cooks-I thought my kitchen was too small, but the author has less counter space than I do. The recipes in this book are stellar as usual.
You just can't go wrong with Deb's recipes. I've been an avid follower of her blog since the beginning, and as a personal chef, it was quite evident she not only knows how to cook and her writing is fresh, informative and a joy to read. I have cooked many of her recipes and not a single one has ever let me down. A true go-to cookbook.
I might be rating this a little prematurely since I haven't made any of the recipes yet (there are quite a few I'm really excited to try!), but this is one of those wonderful cookbooks that you can curl up with and enjoy like a novel. So fun to read and drool over.
Im surprised i didn't like this book better than i did, I had read a lot of reviews and it just didn't meet my expectations. Not to say its a bad book, charming, New Yorksy (which is good) but I didn't find myself drawn to much of the content.
informative
What, you don't read cookbooks cover-to-cover? This one is beautiful, and I can tell you from cooking from Perelman's blog recipes, all of the dishes are going to come out beautifully and like you expect them to. She's a very specific, descriptive food writer. My one quibble is with the formatting. I love that there's a story to go with each recipe, but it's on the left side of each recipe's first page with the ingredients on the right. Often you have to turn the page for the instructions to begin, so there's going to be a LOT of annoying flipping back and forth... my obsessive side is thinking about photo-copying, cutting and pasting the recipes as I cook them.
I read this cookbook cover-to-cover and am so excited to try different recipes. We made the butternut squash and caramelized onion galette last night and it was absolutely delicious! Other recipes on our short-list to try include:
+ Big breakfast latkes
+ Cheddar swirl breakfast buns,
+ Ratatouille sub,
+ Wild mushroom tart,
+ Roasted tomatoes and cipollini onions with white beans,
+ Pancetta, white bean, and swiss chard pot pie

I rated this shortly after I got it, but I'm changing it to 5 stars now. Two years later it's still my go-to cookbook when I want to try something new, because it has never steered me wrong. I've cooked through maybe 30% of it, but a lot of those I've made over and over, and every one has been amazing. Love this cookbook.
This is a winner. It's beautifully laid out (if a little too wordy at times), with scrumptious photographs. Perelman's exactness and inventiveness are equally present. There is a perfect balance of everyone-would-love-this recipes along with more unusual fare. I can't wait to try out some of these recipes, and I may even consider purchasing this book in the long run.
