The first story follows survivors fleeing an apocalypse that claims their dwindling numbers via ghastly transformations. They are plagued by hunger, and surrounded only by the twisted flesh of their fallen…

The collected shorts vary between the fascinatingly macabre, and the outright bizarre, and I very much enjoyed.

I am stunned. I couldn't stop reading. I had to force myself to stop between stories so I could process the layers of what I'd just read. Absolutely....incredible. This author is an utter genius.

3.5 ⭐️ (i think? bordering on 4) Weird books just feed my soul !!! Some stories were sooo engaging, some not as strong, which is often the case with short story collections and makes them so hard to rate.

My faves were ’What would you give for a treat like me’, ’Nature morte’, ’Such a pretty face’, and ’The carrier’. It amazes me how such enticing stories were created within only a few pages !! Explores so many themes in ways I think many women can relate to, themes like love, sexuality, grief, motherhood, adolescence, self discovery.. Complex & fascinating <3
